The petition
Every once in awhile we see the efforts of consumer advocacy groups actually change behavior of Fortune 500 companies! Recently, some of Americas largest food and beverage companies, such as Cocoa Cola and General Mills, Inc., have agreed to adopt stricter controls on advertising that commercially exploits children under the age of 12.
As the developer of Woogi World, a holistic approach to the health and well-being of children, Childrens Way, a non-profit foundation, feels a responsibility to get involved in this effort. Thus, Scott Dow, president of Childrens Way, met with Elaine Kolish, who works with the Childrens Advertising Review Unit (CARU) and is Director of the Childrens Food and Beverage Advertising Initiative. She is also working in conjunction with the National Advertising Review Council (NARC) and closely with the Council of Better Business Bureaus (CBBB). These organizations are campaigning to ensure responsible advertising that will address the issues of childhood obesity, good nutrition, and healthy lifestyles work that is assisting and augmenting the efforts started by Ms. Kolish and managed by the NARC.
As one of the partners of Childrens Way and Woogi World, we invite you to join us in this movement by adding your name to a petition that we will deliver directly to Ms. Kolish. If we organize and mobilize, we can move these companies from a position of simply not advertising in a particular way to a position of actually supporting programs that will truly benefit our children.
Our aim is to share the Woogi World program with these major companies to educate and assist them in playing a key role in promoting the health and well-being of our children. With their assistance, Woogi World could expand to provide even more educational, community, and character-building components, reaching an even broader audience.
Working together we can put Woogi World in front of the nations largest food companies to influence their future communications with, and support of, the best interests of our children. The longer the list of child-concerned entities such as yours, the quicker this vital initiative can move forward.
We're excited to work with you on this issue. Thanks for your support!
