401 Kirk EllisPortlandOR97213I work off of Interstate Avenue. I much prefer that the street be named after a great activist and humanitarian. Caesar Chavez could then join Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks in being honored by the city. Thanks!

414 Kim McCartyPortlandOR97203Cesar Chavez is a person that holds great signifigance for myself and my family. As a child, the grape boycott taught me the value of struggle and sacrafice as exemplified by the actions of Cesar Chavez and farm workers. To this day I cannot eat grapes without acknowledging and respecting the labor that has brought me this gift. My son is named in part in homage to the the character and values that Cesar Chavez represents. Naming a boulevard after Cesar Chavez would elivate how Portland is perceived nationally and internationally as a place that values people and the diversity their contributions. In the last decade I have been troubled by how Portlanders treat citizens of hispanic decent. I thought the patronizing bigoted behavior was relegated to California. Renaming Interstate Blvd., a name that does not have much signifigance, to Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard will provide a daily reminder to all Portlanders that we are a City with many contributors. The renaming of Interstate will have similar signifigance to the renaming of Union Boulevard to Martin Luther King Boulevard. The renaming of a street to honor someone with international respect evelavated my regard for my neighborhood and my City. Any inconvenience this change may cause will be a small price to pay for the acknowledgement of Portland's growing diversity.
415 Kayse JamaPortlandOR97212I am extremely saddened about how this issue has created a wedge between Portlanders. Please stand for justice and what is right for Portland. Mayor Tom Potter and the Ceasar Chavez Committee deserve support and appreciatation. I am horrified about how Portlanders are not willing to deal with their own racist attitudes. Certainly, the issue is deeper than just renaming a street. People are blaming those who stand for justice instead of confronting the ugly side of Portland. I attended two out of the three community meetings and as a person of color and a refugee, I didn't feel welcome. Let's do the right thing and rename Interstate Avenue.

423 Laura HuttonPortlandOR97203There should be no debate on this issue. Cesar Chavez was a vital civil rights leader in this history of this country. Honoring Chavez with a street name is the very least we could do as a city to show our solidarity with the large Mexicano/a and Latino/a population, especially prevalent in North Portland. In a time when xenophobia runs rampant in this country, Portland should take a stand to show the rest of the country that we not only acknowledge but more importantly honor all the immigrant families who struggle daily within our city, in a country which too often antagonizes them.

425 Daniel GarciaPortlandOR97206I implore our civic leaders to rename Interstate Ave. Cesar Chavez Blvd. Our Comissioners need to stop thinking about elections and make the decision that will make future generations of Portlanders and Oregonians proud.

435 Patricia Perez CruzPortlandOregon97211It would be an honor to have a street named after one of our civil rights leader, Cesar E. Chaves. He fought for better justice for the Hispanic community, something that we still hold dearly in our heart & mind. Now we would like to fight for him to be recognized. Having a street named after him would not only be an honor for him but to all the invisible people, the immigrant workers that need to be acknowledge.

439 richard luccettiportlandoregon97236It is about time that, our leader display true leadership and recognize that we Latinos come from many walks of life and deserve to be heard. Mr. Cesar Chavez was a thinker for all the people. Naming Interstate Ave. in his honor is a small deed for all his sacrifices
