Petition for a Community Tennis Center for Charlotte Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Master Plan Process: The Charlotte Tennis Association, along with many local tennis enthusiasts, invested a great deal of time and passion, actively participating throughout the recent Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Master Plan process. The Master Plan document cites significant need for recreation centers, fitness and wellness programs, demand for life-skills programs and a strategic focus on hosting amateur and youth sports events. Tennis is the ideal sport to meet each of these needs highlighted in the Pros Consulting plan. Additionally, the Pros Consulting report indicates a 44 court shortage currently, and a 76 court shortage by 2012. The Master Plan Citizen Survey results show strong demand for tennis programming and facilities.
