The petition
It appears to be a case of the Elephant in the room or the Emperor is not wearing clothes. Things that are obvious, but ignored or tolerated. Education comes in many forms and the lesson plan administered to our children over this past football season failed to reach the mark of acceptance. Coach ****, the head football coach of the ****, has failed to lead our children by example. His seemingly arrogance is only rivaled by his lack of coaching skills. As parents we entrusted Coach **** to help us instill good and strong values in our kids. Values such as; team concept, the rewards of hard work; rules that applies to all players equally and that favoritism has no place in an equal opportunity program.
When faced with the opportunity to demonstrate good leadership qualities, Coach **** failed in most cases. For example: **** told a second string player that the first string player would have to “break his leg before he would get a chance to play”, (words of encouragement would have work better) the player quit the team as result of that comment. **** told another player that he was misrepresenting the severity of his ankle injury and that he could have played more in a game in which the Monarchs loss. The comment again resulted in a kid quitting the team. The parent’s watched Coach **** march injured players on the field of play week after week with no regard for the health and welfare of the players, doing this while healthy and capable players were on the sideline. The results of his action or lack thereof, were that some player’s suffered season ending injuries. This was an unnecessary tragedy that perhaps could have been avoided with proper rest. The players could have possibly returned to the field of play in the upcoming weeks to finish the football season. A coach who has the player’s best interest at heart would have taken the proper action, by putting the player’s health before a team win.
After speaking with our kids, we have learned of many disturbing incidents that have taken place during the course of the season that is beyond belief and should not have been tolerated. It is only now that we express our concerns because of fear of reprisal against our kids.
The highlight of unacceptable leadership displayed by Coach **** is the lack of action taken before and after an assault took place at the beginning of this month. This assault resulted in a kid suffering face and head trauma and has catapulted the Grossmont Union High School District into a future lawsuit. This situation is especially disturbing, because the perpetrator of this assault informed Coach **** that he was having a problem with the victim before the assault took place. Coach **** solution to this problem was to tell the kid to”handle it”. That would have been a perfect opportunity to diffuse what turned out to be a violent situation. Coach **** missed another opportunity to diffuse the situation by not having sufficient supervision in the locker room “at all times”, where the assault took place.
The tragedy of this past football season is not the wins and losses of the football games, but that some of our kids have express to us that they will forego next season if Coach **** is the head football coach. This statement is made even sadder, because some of the kids will be seniors who love the game of football, but the thought of playing under **** for another season is too much to bear.
The parents of the players ask that the administrative staff of **** High School and the Grossmont Union High School District to not let this happen. The solution to the Elephant in the room and the Emperor is not wearing clothes, is a simple one. Stop tolerating and ignoring unacceptable behavior. Taking the right course of action by requesting the resignation of **** will return the Monarch pride back to **** High School.
