Under a new administration the students of Cedar Heights Middle School have newly developed rules that have been created with no cause or reason for the extreme limitations. "PDA" restrictions pertaining to interaction between each other, the freedom and use of our lunch time, and the "allowed" time to use the restroom are the most important points of our protest.
Currently "PDA" (Public Displays of Affection) restricts us from hugging, holding hands and even giving "high fives" to fellow classmates.
During our lunch period we are not allowed to stand in the lunch room and must raise our hand and wait for permission to be excused. And absolutely NO standing in the halls at any time.
The "20/20" rule states that we are not permitted to ask or use the restroom facilities during the first 20 minutes or last 20 minutes of any given period at school.
Our school is not roudy. Our students are not trouble makers or wild. There is no justification to these extreme rules. Denying us our human rights to access restrooms, Forbiding socializing among our friends and taking our freedom of choice in using our lunch period does not enlighten us; it only limits our potential, our creativity, our minds.
Education is about empowering, not limiting. It's about learning, not control. Our country was founded on the values of Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Choice...Give us back our freedom.
In signing this petition you are taking a stand to eliminate the "20/20, limits of the PDA, and strict lunch laws." And regain your freedom to socialize with your friends, regain your human rights to use the facilities and regain your freedom of choice during your lunch and passing periods; ultimately regaining your rights as a citizen of Cedar Heights Middle School. |
