The patch of woodland adjacent to the pond between Chells Lane and Hunters Close(Stevenage) is in imminment danger of being cut down to make way for a building plot. This woodland forms a substantial benefit to the local community. It has been woodland for hundreds of years and was intentionally left as natural woodland by Leach Homes for the benefit of the whole community when the area was developed in 1987. The woodland is home to both Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Jays and many other birds, also badgers and deer are often seen in the early morning. The woodland provides the perfect backdrop to a picturesque pond used by families coming to feed the ducks. The evenings also bring out bats which weave between the trees whilst feeding over the pond in their search for insects. This significant patch of woodland makes a real contribution to the wellbeing of the local community and provides a real amenity for old and young alike and should be preserved at all costs! With the help of our local councellors (Liz Knight and Robin Parker) a temporary (28 days) preservation order has been granted to stop the trees being cut down but this can only be made permanent with your support !!!
