| 2604 | Anonymous | There is a history of diabetes in my family and any devise that can keep someone from going through grand mal seizures needs to be covered by the insurance companies | NM | Highmark Blue Shield |
| 2605 | Betty B. Perry | These glucose monitors must be classified as standard treatment for victims of Type I "Brittle Diabetics"; in the long-run, they save money by helping prevent hospital stays and complications for those affected with severe diabetic conditions. To deny coverage is cruel and inhumane...not to mention time lost from work and stress on families. DO THE RIGHT THING BEFORE Obama forces it on you! | GA | Highmark Blue Shield is the one I know about denying coverage in another state. |
| 2606 | Al Galves | NM | Highmark Blue Shield |
| 2607 | G J Maroney | I am very disgusted with our insurance companies, they are the biggest ponzi schemes known to the USA. The head people make millions while denying many medicines and procedures to the common man. | NM | High Mark Blue Shield |
| 2608 | Gary Ballard | I believe that the insurance should cover this expense....... | NM | Highmark Blue Shield |

| 2618 | Jan Sullivan | IL | Not denied, just rooting for those who need it and thinking ahead in case I ever do. |
| 2619 | Jim Huck | CGM is the first REAL technology to be developed for type 1s since insulin. It soon will be as common for diabetics to carry a CGM as it is for them to carry insulin syringes. | CA | na |
| 2620 | Anonymous | TN |
| 2621 | Timothy Horan | I was recently denied CGM coverage by my insurer Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts | MA | Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts |
| 2622 | Janet McMaster | MT | the one for Daniel Finch |
| 2623 | Megan Taylor | I have been denied for the CGMS despite having type one diabetes for 17+years and being on an insulin pump for 5+years. I demonstrate dedication to my diabetes and my life by checking my blood sugar 9+ times a day, working collaborately with my physicians, exercising, and following recommended meal plan - so what else would the insurance company like to see in patients before approving the CGMS? Logically preventative care saves money... | MI | Blue Cross Blue Sheild of MIchigan |
| 2624 | Dr. Larry Brown | I have been struggling with BCBS of IL for 2 years to cover CGMS for me. I have been turned down 3 times. I was able to try the system for 10 days with outstanding results. For the first time in 39 years of living with Type 1 diabetes I reduced the number of unexpected low blood glucose (BG)concentrations and high readings. I could quickly correct subtle changes in my BG before things went out of control. The CGMS is a major short term and long term benefit that must be available to any diabetic who will sincerely use the device to significantly improve their blood glucose control. | MA | Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois |
| 2625 | Jennifer Held Reno | PA | HealthAmerica |
| 2626 | Peter Schroeder | I agree. | NV | Not denied yet. Just got the system. |
| 2627 | Nels R. Lee | Still working on potential approval. | WI | BC/BS of Virginia Status Pending |

| 2629 | GARY STRALNIC | i HAVE HAD DIABETES AND CANT TELL WHEN I AM LOW | MI | BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD |
| 2630 | Stephen Woodward | Kaiser says If I let my self go out of control I can get a CGM prescription. If I take care of myself, I am not allowed to get a prescription. So, do I let is all go after 38 year of successful management, visit the ER, have a few shock incidents, crash my care or pass out to get my CGM?
Somehow this does not make sense. Particularly after the release of the JDRF study of in control type 1 diabetics with CGMs. Sound like a lot of new diabetes technology, those who struggle with control get the help and those who hit is head on and manage the "D" get nothing. In my years as a "D", I have been denied coverage for BG testing supplies, BG meters, insulin pumps, software, upgraded pumps, new insulin, and long acting insulin. All of these were items I paid for out of pocket, only to be covered months or years later. IT IS TIME KAISER! | CA | Kaiser Northern California |
| 2631 | Stephanie Ballas | CT | Aetna |
| 2632 | Anonymous | The continuous glucose monitoring system (hereinafter CGMS) has been found to be an effective tool to detect impending hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia in patients before a crisis situation occurs. This technology is available today and has the ability to increase the quality of life of patients with diabetes. Every patient and physician team should have the ability to determine which persons are most likely to benefit from the use of the latest technology. I implore you to cease denying coverage for financial reasons under the guise that CGMS is "experimental". CGMS is no longer experimental and has received FDA approval after extensive research on the products.
I am signing my name, providing my email address, providing comments regarding why I support this petition and am also indicating in which state I reside. As a person who has been refused access, I am also indicating which insurance company has unfairly denied me the coverage for this life saving tool for treatment of my diabetes. | VT | blue cross blue shield |

| 2639 | Jessica Jimenez | This medical device can truly be a matter of life or death for someone who has frequent low blood sugars. | CA | I have not yet been denied but plan on submitting my request through Aetna in the next couple of days. |
| 2640 | JoAnn Shartel RN, CDE | As a Diabetes Educator and Type 1 diabetetic for the last 41 years I know that CGM is the way to go to prevent a host of problems for people with diabetes. I am getting older and live by myself and I would feel so much more secure if I had a CGM to monitor my blood sugars while I am asleep. Just because I know a lot about caring for my diabetes there is still areas that need attention.
Diabetes is a 7/24 hour a day job and any tool that can help manage it should be made available to the patient. In the years as a DM educator I have seen and heard many of disaters that could have been prevented, lives saved and complications reduce and prevented. | CA | Medicare |
| 2641 | Louis Kleiman | This is a tool that will keep me alive and paying my health insurance premiums. It will also keep me out of the hospital. More income and less costs for you in the long term. Think about it. | VA | Kaiser Permanente |
| 2642 | Anonymous | Daughter can not take care of this yet | CA | I will apply |
| 2643 | Liz Copple | This is an extremely important technology that has the potential to save hundreds of thousands of dollars for a single patient with Diabetes by helping to avert Expensive Emergency Room, ICU and Hospital Stays and treatments through avoidance in the first place. It will dramatically improve the lives of people with Diabetes and cut costs for everyone. | FL | Not applicable. |
| 2644 | John M | what would you do (companies) if you were in our position?! | MO | anyone that has denied this before |
| 2645 | Jodi Daggett | Please approve this device. My daughter is Type I and suffers daily because of her changes in blood sugars. | IA | Blue Cross Choice |
| 2646 | Jody Kaptena | After having type 1 Diabetes for 38 years, I no longer have warning signs of Hypoglycemia. This a life threatening condition. In order to contribute to society and the world as a whole a CGMS is required for my survival. I have been trying to get preapproval thru medicare and medicaid to no avail. Complictions from Diabetes are an enormous strain on families and costly to families, government and insurance companies. Why not provise coverage for durable medical equipment that can save lives let alone make life more livable as well as save billions of dollars in revenue? I have been told verbally by medicare and by medicaid that a CGMS will not be covered. | IL | Medicare & Medicaid |
| 2647 | Anonymous | The CEO of United Healtcare, Stephen Hemsley, his salary, $3.2 million.
How can one person earn this much money and yet his company continues to deny coverage for continuous glucose monitoring system?
We need this to survive and live a healthier life. Does he need $3.2 million to survive and prevent serious complications that could result in his death? | CA | Cigna
Up 61% year to date, shares of Coventry Health Care Inc. (CVH) on Monday rose 6%, while shares of Aetna Inc. (AET) gained nearly 5%, while UnitedHealth Group Inc. (UNH) and Cigna Corp. (CI) both advanced more than 4%.
How can they do this and still deny us what we need to live? |
| 2648 | A Segal | NV | Medicare & Senior Dimensions |
| 2649 | Thomas A. Kehoe Jr. | It seems more than reasonable to me that insurance companies should pay for CGM devices and there needed supplies. First for the patient it offers them the ability to tighten control of their diabetes and enjoy a more healthy and productive life while lowering the risk of complications from uncontrolled or poorly controlled diabetes. Secondly, while I understand that an insurance company needs to watch costs it is going to be far less costly to pay for preventative medicine such as CGM rather than pay for the care of long term illness and diseases caused from uncontrolled blood glucose levels such as kidney disease and heart attack. It just makes good sense both from a humanistic aspect as well as a business aspect. | VT | Medicare |
| 2650 | Jeffrey Digman | My son is a 12yo boy with hopes and dreams. It is common knowledge that Illinois Medicaid will deny coverage for CGMS every time, and it is outrageous. His diabetes is exceptionally brittle, spiking highs after even a meager intake. The CGMS would be a godesnd to aid him in control and prevent complications later in life. | IL | Illinois medicaid |
