Wendy BillingsleyMy son has had type 1 diabetes since age 4. He is going to have this disease for many years. I would love to keep his control in a good range to save him the suffering that comes with complications later in his life. His MM CGMS is helping us to do this. Our plan has denied him of this.NCHorizon BCBS of NJ
Carrie GradyMy life would be so much easier with a CGM. I would also feel more confident in my future if I knew that I was not unknowingly injuring myself everydayPAAetna
AnonymousThis is a real life saving device that enables diabetics to monitor and closely control their blood sugars.TXI would like to commend my insurance company for accepting claims for this product.
Scott PrattI think it is an outrage that insurance companies are covering the costs artificial births, and all those outrageous costs associated. Meanwhile Type 1 diabetics, by no fault of their own, cannot get proper coverage to manage their lifethreatening disease. This outrage paints a dispicable value system adopted by health insurance companies. Where is the common sense in their business model?PAIndependence Blue Cross

GenevieveI think that the Rockstars, Diatribe and all, just need to stop fighting, get together in a room, and figure out what the collective group can do for the growing number of Diabetics who need our help.TXAetna and they only put me through six months of hell over an insurance claim, after I had been paying them for 18 months.
AnonymousType I diabetic for 30 years, and have developed hypo unawareness and was turned down for CGM by United Health Care, am requesting a review, but not holding my breath. I also live alone.TXUnited Health Care

AnonymousI have had type one diabetes for 45 years. I am a proud single parent of a 16 year old son. When my son was 10 he found me on the floor and called the paramedics. I was in a coma for 9 days and nearly died. I had severe hypoglycemia, was under much stress caring for my elderly mother who had dementia and my young son. I had become unaware of hypoglycemia after so many years of diabetes. Had I had the sensor and CGM this never would of happened. It has changed my life forever, as now I am fearful of going out alone even grocery shopping and suffering more low blood sugars. It is hard enough to live with the illness, plus all of the complications and depression from the illness. This is not about money, this is about LIFE. I believe in preventive medicine and I am a living fact that I am still here. Because I have a wonderful endocrinologist at the University of MN whom helped educate me at a young age how to become my own doctor and in control of my health by knowing all I can and using the most recent medical devices obtainable for diabetes. Now if we can only get a cure, which I have firm believe there is one before it is too late and especially for the young diabetic of the future. Lets make life easier for those with illnesses, it is not about money. Had I never had diabetes I would not be who I am today. A strong advocate and believer that all things are possible and never ever give up. Lets just not waste our valuable energy and time having to fight the system for necessary health care!MNMN care
Susan L. SmithMy granddaughter (age 3) was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes Dec 11, 2008. Since I am a nurse and have seen first hand the long term complications of poor glucose control, my heart aches for our little Taylor. The Dr has not suggested either CGM or Pump for Taylor yet; but, I sure do hope that "when" either is suggested, her Insurance (Aultcare) will cover them. Thanks, GrandmaOHAultcare is not on your list of Insurers who do cover CGM. They have not been asked to cover CGM for my granddaughter since the Dr. has not suggested CGM yet.

Bob AvrittNot good medicine to keep this technology out of the hands of those who need it. Insurance companies should be ashamed of themselves!CONot denied yet...
Deanna DimmerlingMy 3-year-old daughter has type 1 diabetes and I worry every single minute of every day about her health. I believe that a CGMS will enable her to live a LONG healthy life and I pray that insurance companies will see the value in covering it. We have not yet requested one from our insurance company, Aultcare, but I am pretty sure that we will be denied when we do. Please push this valuable tool through so that my daughter can live a LONG healthy life.OHNot yet denied, but our insurance is Aultcare.

Pamela L. ReillyContinuous glucose monitoring actually saves healthcare costs by improving diabetes control and thereby diminishing or even eliminating complications. To not cover such a device under insurance is a ridiculous abuse of power. Diabetics should not be penalized for striving to achieve perfect control of their condition.
