We the undersigned believe that the long term competitiveness, success and stability of the Canadian Football League (CFL) hinges on the implimentation and enforcement of a salary cap which is reaonable and mutally acceptable to the league, its teams and the Canadian Football League Players Association (CFLPA). We also believe that such a salary cap is in the best interest of the CFL owners, CFLPA and CFL fans. The CFL is now dangerously poised to repeat mistakes made in the past which allowed costs to damage the longterm success and profitability of the league. A new salary cap must contain rules that either disallows or includes the value of side deals not included in registered player contracts. Off season jobs offered by the teams should be scrutinized to eliminate jobs where a player does not actually perform any duties. |
