Danielle A. Elwood | As the chapter leader of ICAN of Connecticut, this is something very important to me. We need to help to lower the cesarean rates in our state to a safe rate for mothers and their babies.

Rachael McGrath Clark | Cesarean rates are at an alarming all time high, we need to raise awareness about this important issue in women's health care.
Cari Wolverton |
Eileen H | The c-section rate in Connecticut is at a dangerous all-time high. Women are being coerced into c-sections due to their doctors' fear of being sued and ridiculous hospital policies, despite the fact that c-sections are generally riskier for both mom and baby. The World Health Organization says that the c/s rate should be between 5-10% (why is CT at 34%??). For all of our "technology, "the U.S. has a higher maternal death rate than 40 other countries.
Karen N Kilson | I repeat - such a little effort by our Governor would have gone such a long way in the issue of women's medical health awareness. Shame shame. CT could have been one of the leaders instead of one who didn't run.

Judith Manfull | Education that helps prevent unnecessary surgery is simply that--education. It isn't any more or less controversial than any other educational resource on any other health care problem.
Shane Silverman | There is no substitue to being informed. There is no informed concent with out all the information.

Janet Hall | This should not be a controversial issue. Women are having unnecessary major surgery every day, in alarming and increasing numbers, and women's bodies have NOT forgotten how to give birth. This is a serious health issue for women and their babies. Please help support recognition of this serious health issue in our state.

Anonymous | What a shameful statistic for the state of CT! We must stand together to address this issue and protect the birth right of all mothers and babies!
Lindsey S | C-sections are a wonderful life-saving procedure. But it is not as safe as a normal birth. Women should get to make an INFORMED choice.
Diane Duckstein | The madness NEEDS to Stop.....educate, infrom and undo!!!

Julie Shubert | As a birth doula who attended birthing women for over seven years I am amazed at the little that is done during managed birth to avoid a Cesearan. The risks are real and the toll that this surgery takes on women and babies as the begin their mothering is huge. So much can and should be done to educate women and birth professionals on how to be proactive in avoiding Cesearans and promoting normal birth. Let's talk about it.

Jean Flynn | It's wonderful to have the benefit of cesarean surgery when it will save the life of a mother and/or her baby. However, thirty-four percent of births in CT are NOT because a life is in imminent danger. Women can't possibly have the time or energy to understand the risks when they're in labor. Families need to be educated so they understand long BEFORE labor. CT needs to be educated.
