Chari, 29, Arielle, 3 1/2 and Amanda, 1 1/2, Cohen Oliveira are writing this letter pleading for the local support of our fellow constituents regarding the return of our husband and father, Enivaldo Medeiros Oliveira, a Brazilian citizen. Enivaldo left the United States and his family on March 8, 2004 in order to be able to legalize his status here. Today, 16 months later, he continues to be unable to join Arielle, Amanda, and I in our home in Newton, Massachusetts because it was decided that my girls and I are not suffering enough of a hardship without him.
While Enivaldo has been in Brazil, Arielle, Amanda, and I have beeen struggling to survive emotionally and financially without him. His absence has been life altering to all of us in many ways. Arielle and Amanda who were 26 months and 3 months when their father had to leave, have been growing up without the physical presence of their father. No snuggling, no hugs, no kisses, no physical contact with their daddy.
My life as I know it has been taken away from me. I am stranded here with the financial and emotional responsibilities previously shared between a mother and a father. I went from almost buying a home in May 2004 to needing emergency section 8 housing, having to go onto food stamps, and cannot afford to send my oldest to preschool as I am number 423 on a one to two year waiting list for an OCCS daycare voucher. I am unnecessarily living as a poverty-stricken single parent when I have a husband who enthusiastically takes on the daily physical, mental and financial roles that complete the family unit.
Words cannot express the state of devastation and desperation we are experiencing right now and this has become our everyday life. Please help to fill our emptiness, make us whole again and save us from drowning in the abyss of poverty by signing this petition and by gathering at the JFK building at Government Center on July 27th at 1:00pm for a public speech in support of Enivaldo's return to us. |
