Birmingham's final year Biosciences students are extremely distressed due to sudden timetable changes:
The Neurobiology exam has been moved forwards by six days and placed on the same day as another third year module.
The Omics exam has been moved forwards by twelve days.
This has caused major upset and resulted in severe disruption to many students' planned revision timetables.
Although the department's reason for changing the timetable was to stop some final year students taking two exams in one day, the reason for the changes is vague as the Omics & Neurobiology modules did not clash with any other final year modules. There has been mention that it may be due to the Lecturer strikes whilst others suggest there is a 'preferred finish date' so exams can be marked in time.
Furthermore on a more fastiduous note the University's exam regulations page states that the deadline for producing the final exam timetable is the 13th April.
The University's website was down until the 17th April, therefore the deadline for making any changes to the provisional timetable was missed and so the proposed changes are against the University's regulations. Also the result of the changes being made so late has meant that most staff are away on an Easter break so will not be available until Monday to attempt to resolve these problems.
Please sign below if you agree that the Neurobiology and Omics modules should be moved back to as close to the original provisional dates as possible.
