101 MarkHarooniUSThe massege I am getting from such bans is that it is ok to study the TOrah as long as one agrees with accepted opinions. If one dares to disagree, then one is a heretic. As did John Hancock upon the Declaration of Independence, I proudly sign my name as one against this philosophy.

110 R' DavidKennerNYUSThe entire ban was an unjust evil. Torah true Rabbis may not simply sign anything under their nose without responsibility. Rabbi Slifkin had been teaching his science and Torah for years in Charedi institutions along side many others who all had backing from many modern day charedi authorities, some who are world figures. If these great Rabbis were so concerned, they needed to talk to the other Rabbis first to work it out. Attacking the author personally is a desecration of G-d's name. Dirty politics has no place in Torah. i am a chassidic Jew and write this for the honor of the Hashem and the Torah.
111 DorisJaffeCAUSRabbi Slifkin should have been given an opportunity to defend himself and the signers of the ban should have read his books before condeming them. It's a chilul HaShem the way Rabbi Slifkin and his family have been embarrassed publicly (this is against halacha). We participated in a tour of the San Diego Zoo led by Rabbi Slifkin. Particpants were members of several Orthodox shuls and the San Diego Hebrew Day School. Rabbi Slifkin pointed out the kosher and non-kosher animals and discussed why the Torah considers them kosher or not. It was a most informative program. Rabbi Slifkin never mentioned anything contrary to Torah teachings. Klal Yisroel needs to pull together now in these difficult times; allowing this controversy to continue is a Chillul HaShem. In these days just prior to the Yomim Norayim it is imperative that Rabbi Slifkin's detractors ask him for mechila. How can they go into Yom Tov without healing this situation. We need to do everything in our power to embrace all of Klal Yisroel and to mend fences immediately. May the parties to this controversy make amends immediately, and in their zchus, may The Rebono Shel Olam be merciful to Rabbi Slifkin and his family, and us all in this New Year.
112 WilburJaffeCAUSGil Student's article, The Slifkin Torah-Science Controversy" in the Aug. 18, 2006 edition of The Jewish Press states that Rabbi Slifkin was not given a chance to defend his thoughts or his writings when the ban on his books was issued by leading rabbeim. Did the ban issuers actually read these books? Why was Rabbi Slifkin embarrassed publicly? What about the embarrassment and shame his family is facing? Isn't this action contrary to halacha? Could Rabbi Slifkin at least have been summoned to an impartial Beis Din where his accusers could have stated their position and given Rabbi Slifkin the opportunity to state his views and defend his writings/teachings? If in fact this was done it was not publicized. People are quick to jump to conclusions, but all the facts need to be brought to light before an educated conclusion could be drawn. Rabbi Slifkin, while admittedly a young man, is a well-learned Torah observant man who deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. He's a Ben Torah. To put a ban on his writing seems quite unfair especially when we learn that there are 70 interpretations of Torah. Perhaps his detractors "interpreted" some facts of zoology, biology, and other recognized science differently. It's not fair to condem Rabbi Slifkin. How about a public apology to Rabbi Slifkin and his family before Rosh Hashanah. If the signers of the ban want the Rebono Shel Olam to have rachmones on them, their families, and Klal Yisroel, they should make amends with Rabbi Slifkin pronto. This is being written two days before Slichos. With the trouble in Eretz Yisroel, anti-Semitism on the rise in Europe and elsewhere, it behooves the signers of the ban on Rabbi Slifkin's books to moichel him right now, and daven that The Rebono Shel Olam grant Klal Yisroel a long and healthy life.
