Recently 50,000 signatures were secured in support of an illiberal proposal for a new UK law on possession of pornography.
They claim that 'abhorrent pornography' will turn you into some form of psycho killer.
The UK government placed great store during the flawed consultation process in the weight of public opinion.
Today (4th September 2006) a man was convicted of multiple counts of rape, spurred on by his high heel shoe fetish.
Here is your chance to prove you can get 50,000 signatures to ban something else where a innocuous item is cited as a causal factor in crime. Sign up to ban high heels!

The UK government has just decided to criminalise the viewing/possession of 'violent' pornography.

The consultation (to which the majority of respondants were opposed to new legislation) conceeds that there is no causal link between viewing violent pornography and violent sex crimes. However they are still minded to press ahead with this illiberal legislation.

This summary does not mention that in the original trial one of Jane's friends gave evidence that she too had an asphyxiation fetish.
Had there been no pornography found on his computer the law lords stated that manslaughter would have been the likely verdict, as the prosecution could provide no evidence for premeditation.
The new law will;
Make it illegal to watch S&M pornography that is already illegal to produce/distiribute.
It will also make viewing images of acts that it legal to carry out illegal! (You can play S&M, but if you watch it back the next day it would be illegal).
Sanctions are to include;
3 years in Jail.
Being placed on the sex offenders register alongside paedophiles, rapists and violent sex attackers.
Now what has this all got to do with High Heels I ask you say?
Jane Longhust’s grieving mother raised 50,000 signatures to ban something she felt lead to the crime that took her daughter away from her. The UK government made great play of this in the consultation document.
