AnonymousAnonymousNPA university's job is to care about the well being of its students and to make sure that its students achieve the highest amount of success in their future endeavours. Boston university is not doing this with its deflation policy. Grade deflation is make it harder for its students to succed. It is more difficult to get interenships, jobs, get into graduate school. In actuality, when knowledge of this policy starts spreading the best students from around the world will not come to Boston University.
NimeshAminNYUSI fully support this movement. Boston Univeristy has to realize that its ridiculous and selfishly motivated policy will infact deter its growth and recogniztion.

JennyRyanMAUSI am a recent graduate of BU. The grade deflation policy has made my transcript a hindrance in the job search and made my tenure at the university an unacceptable and unnecessary struggle.

AnonymousAnonymousNYUSThis grading policy at BU is tremendously harmful to so many students, and will only hurt the school as well as the students in the long run. This is not what I, or my daughter has contracted for with this university. After several discussions with admins at the school, the only thing worse than this policy are the constant denials that it exists! Is anyone talking class action suit here?!
AnonymousAnonymousTXUSI'm a MS student at BU, and BU's grading policy is simply ridiculous. All the courses I've taken so far awarded grade A to only the top 10% of the students, for class average of approximately 95/100. Given that almost all students are highly motivated professionals with exptensive work background, it's extremly difficult to attain an A for even the intelligent studious individuals. It has been extremely demotivating at BU, and I've known several students who just gave up working so hard, only to be satisfied with B- (larger curve). It is simply not worth it to pour 30 hours a week for 4 credit hours with not much to show for in resulting GPA, even after mastering the class material.
AnonymousAnonymousTXUSI am a distance learning student through BU's Metropolitan College. I have witnessed and been subjected to grading policies that I find reprehensible. I have seen grading criteria changed on the fly without a word being said about it, and I have seen students with a 99.8 average denied an A+. BU needs to take some action to at least force instructors to make the grading policies for courses clear when a course starts, and not allow any changes once these are published.

AnonymousAnonymousPAUSAnything above 90 should be A. If the class curve is low, then the percentage grading should be implied.

DenisSconzoNYUSGrade deflation is also a serious concern for those who must maintain a high GPA in order to keep scholarships.
AnonymousAnonymousI am a current student and am sick of studying non stop and getting Cs. Because of my GPA, it will be tough to transfer but after this year I will be going somewhere else.
AnonymousAnonymousFLUSI completely agree. While I understand that the curve may raise the effort standard, I cannot get reimbursed by my employer if my grade is below a B. If I work diligently and put forth an A effort against what is being taught, then I agree, I should be awarded a grade demonstrating that.
AnonymousAnonymousNYUS
AnonymousAnonymousMAUSthis issue is out of control. something needs to be done. I transferred from good school where i majored in math and had a 3.5 GPA, now in two semesters at BU also majoring in math I have a 2.95, it is disgusting!

AnonymousAnonymousNYUSI have been put at a significant disadvantage while looking into possible post baccalaureate medical programs because as I was told by my numerous SMG professors, they are forced to curve to a C+/B- curve. There should be some attempt by the administration to clarify the transcripts of alumni to take grade deflation into account, although it may not be an "official" policy, the grades I received during the semester were significantly higher than my final grade. This signifies that although sufficiently mastering the material during the semester, grades were adjusted to fit into a preconceived ratio of A's, B's, C's etc. Although I had good times during my undergrad at BU, if I could go back I would undoubtedly attend another university.

IreneLeichliterPAUSStudents should be awarded the grades they've earned. I would have encouraged my daughter to go elsewhere had I been aware of BU's grade deflation policy. Perhaps she will.

AshleyLeichliterPAUSI am a student at BU and from having experienced this first hand I could not agree more with this petition.

AnonymousAnonymousNYUSI am a student at Boston University and have been affected greatly by this grade deflation policy. In my writing class i recieved no grades less than a B but when i recieved my final average it was a C+ and my writing professor could not explain to me why this occured. I feel that this policy is extremly unfair especially when students are not getting the grades they deserve.

MarinaKrasnopolskyDEUSAbsolutely agree! It has to be changed. My son is a freshman. BU was his dream, he is transferring now to University of Delaware because of grade deflation. He is a good student, studied a lot, but didn't get any satisfaction. Shame!
