The petition

I like dogs and cats but I also like raccoons. Raccoons along with many other animals such as skunks, ferrets and so forth are on the wild animal list and some states don't allow people to have them as pets while others do. The reason some states don't allow people to have raccoons or any animal considered wild as pets is because of the fear that these animals carry rabies and other diseases at a higher rate than domestic animals like dogs and cats. If a pet raccoon bites somebody it has to be taken for testing in the animal is killed. Most veterinarians will not treat raccoons because of the rabies scare. If a person is found in possession of a raccoon or any animal considerd wild in states where it's illegal the animal can be ceased and killed and the owner forced to pay big fines. The purpose of this petition is to try and legalize ownership of raccoons and other exotic animals with a permit showing the owner will be responsible and that the animal was purchased from a licenced breeder here in California and in other states where it's illegal to own exotic animals. I would also like to stop the killing of these animals too. Please support me in trying to legalize pet raccoons in state where it's illegal to own them. There has been some talk of trying to legalize ferrets and skunks but nothing about trying to legalize raccoons.
