Though you said there some volunteers who are willing for the trials, these mass dosages should be first performed on the animals and upon its acceptance limits then the trials are done on human volunteeers.

The amount of animals tested on is a dangerous quantity, reaching fifty to a hundred millions animals annually.
Why do people, for example scientist do the practice of animal testing? First of all cosmetic reasons are different than medical reasons.
Certain companies, but not all companies use animal testing to ensure you that their product is safe for your skin. This testing is commonly performed on animals to measure the levels of toxicity caused by various substances used in the manufacture, for skin irritancy and eye tissue damaged.
The test done to the animals are very depressing and intense. Testing eye make up is one of the most painful procedures preformed on animals. They first step in testing the product, is to tie and secure the animal down. They then poor or flush the product on the animal’s eye, which sadly is extremely painful causing the animal to break is back and neck from trying to escape the restraints.
Lethal Dosage (LD) are tests that help to determine the amount of a substance that will kill a large amount of animals. For example; the animals are forced to ingest poisonous substances, usually through stomach tubes, vapor spray inhalers or injections until half of the animals die. Some of the common side affects are seizures, vomiting, paralysis and bleeding form the eyes, nose, mouth and rectum.
Not only is animal testing inhumane but its is inaccurate. LD test do not measure the human’s health hazards but it does measure how toxic the product is on the animal tested on. You cant be 100% positive that the measures recorded on an animal will be the same safe measures for a human. LD tests have many variables that come into play, when you test on an animal, like the age and sex of the specie.
More and more companies are being to use non-animal testing methods that are more accurate and less expensive. These methods are replacing animals with skin tissue, corneas from eye banks, and complicated computer and mathematical models.
Some companies avoid animal testing altogether by using non-toxic natural ingredients or that have been approved by the cosmetics.

I personally agree with this quote. If we already have a solution to stop testing on animals, why not use it.
I still don’t understand why animals are being tested on because in 2003, the European union passes a ban on the use of animals in cosmetic testing starting in 2009 and a complete stop to animal testing in 2013. Why couldn’t they have stopped earlier saving the lives of animals?
Compassionate consumers must use their purchasing power to send a strong message to cosmetics manufacturers that testing on animals is cruel and unacceptable.
The medical animal testing is different from cosmetic animal testing reasons. Medical research involving animals has dramatically improved the health of the human race. The cure for polio wouldn’t exist without the testing of animals. There is a down side still for animal testing.
95% of drugs passed by animal tests are immediately discarded as useless or dangerous to humans. Animals are only 37% effective in identifying what causes cancer to humans; to put it in a better perspective, flipping a coin would be more accurate. |
