To: Erie County Legislature
We the people of Erie County are petitioning to amend the Erie County Charter to allow for the recall of elected officials. We would like to see the Charter revised to allow for the following:
1. Allow for all elected officials to be recalled
2. A minimum of 10% of voters signatures would be needed to force recall
3. Elected officials would serve 6 months from the time of taking the oath of office before being subject to recall.
4. Replace recalled elected officials by appointment of someone of the same party by the County Legislature until the next November where there would be a special election to fill the remainder of the term.
5. Limit the term of elected officials to 2 4-year terms
By amending the county charter to include a recall provision, we will ensure that the people of Erie County have a way of holding elected officials accountable for misleading us during or after elections and for gross violations of public trust!!
