without them i really don't know korea plz don't suspended him. |
| 1503 | Justina | Hello, I'm from the U.S. I'm in the process of learning Korean, but it's definitely not enough to understand what others are saying. I greatly appreciated Coolsmurf's videos for letting me enjoy the shows without the language barrier. Without Coolsmurf, I would not be as interested in Korean music as I am now. Please understand our situation. Thank You. |
| 1504 | Anonymous | Coolsmurf if TEH WIN. YT is TEH lose..
Suspension of account without PRIOR notice is totally uncalled for.
Coolsmurf's videos represents HUNDREDS of hours of work, which YT callously deleted in the name of "Copy Right Infringement." Coolsmurf was NOT making money out of these videos.. and SBS and the artists in those videos were gaining free International publicity and garnering thousands of more fans from this..
YouTube should give more notice before suspending accounts.. Unless they show LEGIT proof that they warned coolsmurf before those 3 notices that arrived on the SAME DAY, I think it's safe to say that.. YouTube is TEH EVIL. I hope everyone gets a flv downloading program and sucks the life out of youtube. |
| 1505 | Christine | Thanks to content producers like SBS and third-party providers like Coolsmurf, people all over the world have the opportunity to discover Korean entertainment. South Korea is one of the leading entertainment industries in Asia--there's no statistic to support but how much tourism and interest gets its start from curiosity-seekers due to media exposure?
If SBS or any other network doesn't see the appeal of its own content and at least attempt to make it available for the world, then why censure the individuals who take on this role? From a business standpoint, why not capitalize on the commerce that a video blogger on free webspace can bring you?
Coolsmurf alone had over 20,000 subscribers--what advertiser wouldn't like to have 20,000 sets of eyes on its product or service? At a fraction of the cost of traditional media?
This should have been a simple history lesson from the Napster case study. Instead of censuring content providers like Napster and like Coolsmurf, SBS should try to figure out how to turn this web phenomenon into an additional vehicle of revenue for themselves.
iTunes is an industry leader because instead of censuring the process, Apple accepted the music downloading process and developed it into a huge revenue-making operation. Now every record company that originally condemned Napster is singing a different tune on iTunes.
The faster SBS and every other television network in the world get comfortable with developing a similar vehicle for film and television, the less money they will lose ferreting out netizens who are already feeding it to millions of people for free.
This public demonstration of Coolsmurf's account simply demonstrates the ignorant complacency of SBS towards its role as a media provider. No wonder they offended the entire media world with an asinine broadcast of Beijing's finest moment a week before it was due. I hope the International Olympic Committee bars them from providing Olympic coverage in restitute. |
| 1506 | Nabilah | The suspension of accounts such as coolsmurf's has greatly disappointed me. I live in a country where I cannot watch such TV shows with English subtitles and now my connection with the Korean culture has also been "suspended". Perhaps SBS didn't realize how much an impact they have made by doing this to non-korean supporters but if they continue with this act, they would lose hundreds or even thousands of international supporters to the korean entertainment in general. |
| 1507 | Mary | To Whom It May Concern (particularly YouTube and SBS),
I would like to voice my opinion concerning the suspension of Coolsmurfs account on YouTube. His suspension poses problems for those whom wish to connect with the Korean culture by accessing videos with English subtitled videos. By suspending his account you are preventing thousands upon thousands of people around the whole world the exposure of the Korean culture that we find so fascinating. It is regrettably understandable that it does pose copyright and infringement rights that he cut parts of the videos, however, if SBS doesn't translate these shows for English viewers, who will? Coolsmurf provides almost immediate translations and updated shows on a daily basis. Usually foreign countries take months to even bother or even CONSIDER doing this. In addition, by allowing Coolsmurf to subtitle these videos, he is freely advertising the SBS channel and its shows. Isn't this what television is all about? Targeting a wider and larger variety of audience members and increasing it's numbers? As a non-Korean, I am majorly interested in the korean culture and without this exposure from Coolsmurf I wouldn't be able to learn anything. The language barrier is always a huge problem in any country, however, by allowing Coolsmurf to continue his hard work and committment to subtitlingthese videos for fellow English speakers like me, you are allowing us the enjoyment and entertainment of Korean shows and dramas at our leisure. In all honestly, I think it is ridiculous that Coolsmurf got suspended. He was only subtitling the videos. He wasn't publicly ridiculing the Korean culture, or being biased. He was only working towards the common good for the public. I beg to differ that he deserves this punishment, for he has worked so hard with no reward. He wanted to stop subtitling at one point, but with the encouragement and support of others he continued to do so. He does this for others, and not himself. I applaud his dedication and committment and so should YouTube and SBS. He is expressing his own culture to others while others online post pointless videos. If SBS doesn't provide a connection for America to Korea, then at least allow one person to join that gap. Please allow coolsmurf to continue his account on YouTube. I guarantee you won't regret it. |

| 1510 | Emily C | Coolsmuf is definitely one the reasons many SBS artists can even appeal to people throughout Asia and the world at large and without him I don't think they would be racking in so much money. And SBS doesn't make money off their videos/shows anyway because they are never released on DVDs and such therefore I really don't see the need along with the many others that are supporting coolsmurf and this petition in suspending her account when there are thousands of other SBS footage on the net. How are those not an infrigement (again, even when SBS doesn't release their media to the public)?! Why go after the one user that has brought them so many fans worldwide and made korean culture one to treasure? As an international fan I'm very upset and disappointed with SBS especially because of coolsmurf's hard work. Now I'm very much considering KBS or MBC for korean entertainment. If SBS doesn't believe in the proof that is presented before them that coolsmurf has a major influence on their viewings and even korean culture being spread worldwide then I guess that makes them as "inclusive" as the people their cameras ignorantly caught on tape and idiotally released on the internet. There is living proof of his influence and one example is Charice Pempengco. Americans even caught on to her talent because of users like her when E! did an exclusive on how her amazing talent deserves a lot of fame because of internet users on youtube specifically coolsmurf. I lastly want to say that my gratitude for coolsmurf is endless because he introduced me to korean culture and made me and many others more open to just about anything. |

| 1521 | Jenny | I'm Chinese and from New Zealand and we're not exposed to Korean television unless we have a monthly subscription and even if we did subscribe, it would be useless because I cannot understand Korean and without the help of the English-subbed videos from Coolsmurfs channel, I would not have been exposed to the amount of Korean pop culture that I have been anywhere else other than these subbed videos. Coolsmurf is one of my portals through to the Korean pop culture so could you please reactivate his account as it would not only satisfy me but scores of people. It was actually through this channel that I found through surfing that had sparked an interest in me in Korean culture so please, reactivate his account.
Thank you. |
| 1522 | cezj0ie14 | I am a kpop fan and i am really really sad when i got to see the article about collsmurf's suspension.I admit,i never did subscribe to his page but i really love his vids..I'm not into subscribing but in watching so i didn't subscribe.I am terribly disappointed when i didn't longer see the videos of him together with gomdorii's videos,i didn't know why they have to delete such us uploaders. They(SBS)should be thankful that there are people like them who post their videos in other sites to help their stars to become famous internationally.I understand the infrigment thing but YT should have just delete the videos they said that is only copied.I second to the person who said that they must have practice fairness(actually, thy should really have)They make some lives miserable for just deleting a channel right?Coolsmurf's hardworks went to nothing because of his suspension.I am signing this petition to help coolsmurf be permitted again to have a YT acct. or anything..I just want to see his videos again..Subbing is really hard and is really very important to non-korean fans..so pls.be considerate! |
| 1523 | NUR ASHIKIN USRI | This comments showing that I support all the hard work that coolsmurf have done for us. I do really, honestly hope that his account will be given back to him. Please, he had done the very best to help others see the world through youtube. please give him back his account. |
| 1524 | Celine | Bring back coolsmurf! It is through him that I now am a fan of Korean artists. SBS should realize that coolsmurf made star king more accessible to the international community. I know a lot of people who became fans of Super Junior after watching Charice's duet with Kyuhyun. Please bring coolsmurf back! |

| 1528 | jane | to Youtube and SBS:
coolsmurf's subbed videos have been a big help for us non-korean speaking audience and deleting his youtube account will not only affect us viewers but also SBS, or Korea in general since "the korean wave" became possible because of the support of the non-korean speaking audience.....through coolsmurf's subbed videos, we are able to appreciate and admire the korean culture and traditions minus the language barrier........
i am really saddened by this news......Youtube should have given coolsmurf enough time to delete the videos with copyright infringement.......
i am signing this petition for Youtube to bring back coolsmurf's account...... |
| 1529 | Gianna Gula | I would like to say that I was very proud to have coolsmurf on youtube for the fact that many Americans who enjoy the Korean culture appreciated watching such episodes he gave. Yes, KBS has their rights, but also, why can we not have someone who will translate and sub for us to stay part of an American(or international) KBS community? The fact that we were able to watch these amazing shows and ENJOY them as multiple cultures should make KBS proud. Although we are not watching it televised and giving them ratings, we are searching about our beloved WE GOT MARRIED stars, giving them recognition, and most of all not even slightly bashing or giving insult to KBS. Giving insult would be wrecking their shows and insulting casts and crew, if anything we appreciated KBS. I hope KBS will understand that other cultures would enjoy watching their shows, and that we try hard translating to do so, so in part we are actually helping, not doing harm.
Thank you. |

| 1536 | Jason | For us who don't understand Korean at all, coolsmurf's is pretty much one of the only few ways that we can actually watch korean variety shows and understand them...
I don't see SBS making any effort whatsoever to translate their own works!
You're basically just isolating yourselves from all english speaking nations! (and that's a lot of nations!) |

| 1542 | Coral | I'm a Singaporean myself, and a great fan of the Korean wave, helped mostly by the series and variety shows that is English-subtitled available online. Probably, the next best alternative is to subscribe to cable, but cable has a 'time lag' in terms of its shows, and there is lesser varieties available.
This Korean wave has spurned me to plan my trip to Korea, learn more about the culture, and language (though I'm not terribly great at it yet). Also, there are thoughts of going there for an exchange, and definitely keeping in touch with the people via these programmes helps bridge the cultural distance.
These fansubbers have only included subtitles in your programmes for others to enjoy and understand, and as close to real time as possible, as compared to those given in the official website. Please re-think your stance, especially when the reach of your network is not worldwide or globally available - the internet is the key to reach out to a global audience. |
| 1543 | Lois | i have always greatly appreciated the efforts of coolsmurf. because of this person i have been able to watch some of my favorite shows with subs. since i don't speak korean this is a big help.
bring coolsmurf back! |

| 1547 | Tee Chor Ping | I seriously hope Youtube would reinstate Coolsmurf account.
They ought to negotiate with SBS about suspending Coolsmurt account.
There were many viewers relied heavily on Coolsmurf’s subbed videos on Korean Variety show & I’m definitely one of them.
It’s due to Coolsmurf’s subbed video that, I got to learn about Korean cultural more, & I even have the desire to learn Korean language.
If it weren’t due to Coolsmurf’s subbed video, I wouldn’t know awesome group such as Shinhwa, SUJU & many more. I wouldn’t be involved in the KPOP scenario too.
SBS ought to reconsider their decisions, having more consideration for international viewers such as us.
SBS is so well-known today to so many of us due to the subbing work of people like Coolsmurf. If it weren’t for people like him and others who uploaded, I would ensure you not much people would know about the existence of SBS in the first place.
The Korean stars like Shinhwa, DBSK, Rain, Boa & many more would not be recognized internationally & be welcomed by fans in everywhere they go.
After all, who would want to buy original expensive CDs of those artists when none of us know & support them.
Who would want to fly to Korea to see those Korean scenes which were taken in those Korean Dramas?
Who would want to fly to Kroea & buy expensive concert ticket for their idol’s performance if the singers are nobody to them?
Youtube & SBS ought to think of the consequences which will happen.
So please.. reconsider your decision again.
Unless SBS is willing to sub its own videos & upload them in Youtube as fast as Coolsmurf, I really hope & pray that SBS will not be acting so inhumanely. |
| 1548 | Jia Hui | For the past few months, I've been relying on coolsmurf for the subbed videos of korean variety shows. I got to watch korean shows because of coolsmurf's hard work. The #65 episode of Star King, showing pianist Ye Eun and Connie Talbot, was one of my favourite videos, unfortunately, it was licensed. However, it is unfair to coolsmurf to be suspended just because of a few videos which he did not manage to delete in time. Through the subbed videos that coolsmurf uploaded, I get to watch korean shows and understand them as well. Star king, x man and real romance love letter are all my favourite shows. I am sure that there are many others who depend on coolsmurf for his subbed videos, so please reinstate his account to let us non-koreans have a chance of watching korean variety shows. |
| 1549 | Koy | The petition said it all. In the beginning, I was never into Korean culture. On one boring day, however, I happened to randomly clicked some of the subbed videos uploaded by coolsmurf and I started to become interested in a variety show called X-man. Then I started to get into Korean music and music artist such as DBSK and Wonder Girls. If it wasn't for coolsmurf, I never would have known about the X-man show, Star King show, We Got Married show, DBSK, and other Korean shows and music artist. Thus, please bring back coolsmurf's account. Without coolsmurf, I don't know which other users to turn to for suggestion of entertaining Korean TV show with subtitle. |
