| 263 | Pamela Bough | We already pay for the construction of highways in the taxes we contribute when we purchase gas for our vehicles. Why is it necessary to charge for highways. The Germans have some of the best highways in the world and they do not charge users.
Chicargo has many toll roads and they use the pay as you drive turnstiles. The electronic type used by Highway 407 only allows for a charge for a piece of equipment even if you never use it again. The cost of irresponsibly charging people who have never used that highway has caused increase admin costs. A pay as you go turn stile, while old fashioned, does collect the toll on the spot. Privatisation only allows for the private sector to charge what they will with little or no profits going to the public coffers, only the private companies that did not build, design or construct the highway. |

Roads don't make revenue for Governments and they shouldn't for a private firm. All Ontarian's use roads (like Hospitals) and they need to be kept in public supervision and service. |

The MTO is now on the verge of not having enough "Organizational Intelligence" to manage its own highways according to some managers and the politicians continue to "stay the course" of privatization. We will soon be held hostage to the piracy of consultants with no means to reverse the infrastructure's decay and subject to their every increasing tariffs. |

If they cannot manage to save money over 5-8 year contracts how will they ever manage with 20-25 year ATC contracts. Its time to put the black and yellow trucks back out onto the Highways. Stop the privatization and Rebuild the Public Services. |
