TO the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
WHEREAS the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario intends to incorporate long-term Area Term Contracts (ATCs) as a means of maintaining and reconstructing provincial highways; and
WHEREAS trial contracts for huge transnational corporations in defined regions of Ontario are already being planned; and
WHEREAS the ministry has suggested that such ATCs will improve the overall condition of the provincial highways, save the taxpayer money compared to the current way of doing business, and foster local economic growth; and
AND WHEREAS the ministry has failed to demonstrate that any of the above can be achieved by the introduction of ATCs;
THEREFORE we the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:
The provincial government must cancel its plans for ATCs and work to improve Ontario’s roads through public management and public oversight of the transportation system. |
