7 vito piconeA reduction in property tax and a reduction in the qualifying income for the STAR program is a must to relieve senior citizens of a burden they cannot afford. A 70K per year income less income taxes, less property taxes, less LIPA less medical = NOT ENOUGH TO LIVE ON LONG ISLAND>
8 Fred WagnerI have lived in Holbrook For 4 years . I live on S/SDisability with my wife and 2 daughters 9 &10 years old I have been in the rears on my taxs.
9 FrankI am a senior on a fixed income. I worked my entire life, until an accident on the job, forced me into retirement. Now, living on a fixed income, on Long Island, should be enough for a economics degree at Princeton. Something has to be done with the Property Tax issue, because they keep going up at a faster rate than my minimal increase in my Social Security Disability Check, and, forget about Compensation, those checks don't ever increase once you are capped out. Now, I have to make tough choices, on who to pay first, if I eat healthy meals( which I must because of other health issues not related to my disability), or do I eat only once a day, if that by the end of the month. Then, there's my home heating oil bill(which rises daily), my medications, insurance for my car(which I desperately need, because again, I live on Long Island, where there's very little or no publc transportation), my home insurance, LIPA, Propane gas, water and the list seems like it never ends. I never had a problem paying my bills when I was working. I'd work a lot of overtime, and that gave me what I need, with a little extra. But, now, there's no extra, and if they keep on raising the Property Taxes, along with other taxes, it's going to leave me no choice, but, I will have to leave my home, where I lived all my 50+ years, and I don't think that's very fair. My home has been in my family for over 60+ years, and all I wanted to do, is live out my life, in my families home until I pass away. But, now, I might have to move to Delaware, where being I'm Disabled, I don't have to pay Property Taxes, or If I do have to pay, it's very little, and, being I live alone, with No family left, I will look forward to dying alone in an unfamilar state, by myself. Nobody, that worked and paid his taxes his entire life should be put in this position. And, there's millions of Seniors a lot worse off then myself, and if we don't get help, any help soon, what will become of us? Does anybody really care for their fellow human being anymore? Especially, the ones that can't help themselves???? Please, help us!
