The petition
Since the unit was introduced early this semester, there is a constant complaint from students as they feel that the unit is poorly organized, the textbooks are practically useless, the extra reading materials are illegible and the resources available are very limited. There are no sample papers provided and the exam memo which was provided in Week 13 did not have any relevance to the final examination. To make things worse, the tutors and lecturers responsible for unit AFW2851 are not able to direct the students on how to prepare prior to Week 13. Students were told by the lecturer in Week 12 to wait for the examination memo and in the meantime to study for other subjects. Given that the exam was in the second week of the exam period, there was insufficient time to study and prepare. If you look at the review of AFW2851 on MUSO site, you will see that there are numerous postings from disgruntled students due to the unit’s incompetencies, as well as insufficiencies.
We propose that Monash University take the following actions:
1.conduct a full and thorough review of the unit.
2.reduce the hurdle requirement for the recent examination.
