Comments: I agree that this sum is far too great, especially since he hasn't done anything deserving of such a large salary as yet. Lets use that money to do something to improve the university and save money later on, such as purchasing solar panels.

Comments: Could we not put some of this money to better use -- say, more funding for students, faculty, or pay for staff Why participate in widening the nationwide wealth and income gap -- shouldn't we spread this money out a little

Comments: I worte an editorial that appeared in the Daily Lobo on Monday about this insanity. It will also appear in the Alb. Journal on Sunday. It's about time that people speak up and take steps to get UNM's priorities in order.

Comments: I am from Canada and in Canada, we do not spend such astronomical amounts on athletics. I find it hard to believe. It makes me wonder what is the prior at US universities - sports or academics.

Comments: as this simply the decision of the athletics director himself How does an athletics program benefit UNM (This meant as a question, not rhetoric.) How about a UNM community referendum on this salary Does he also get a golden parachute if he ends up not fulfilling his contract Are there any success criteria for the contract

Comments: It's ridiculous! Why don't they use that money for scholarships to more New Mexicans and residents of the state so they can afford to go to college. Obviously we now know were the interests of UNM and government lie, definitely not in education. I am offended by the idea that a coach (no matter what team, state, or university) could receive such an amount (or event close to that amount). On the other hand, we have excellent professors who have brought prestige to UNM and how are they recognized, maybe with a small raise and a stupid plaque (which will go to storage). UNM needs to rethink their priorities.

Comments: For a state university that has deplorable graduation rates because our students cannot afford education as a result of working full time jobs, this is shameful. Shame on the Athletics department, shame on administration for allowing it.

Comments: While sports are a great community activity and a boost to the morale of the students, it still does not justify paying such an exorbitant salary to a basketball coach. Being a poor state, we should dedicate our resources to education and improving the lives of all our citizens through improved learning programs. Thank you.
