When I sign this piece of paper, I am agreeing to the following 6 statements about SLUH’s National Honor Society: 1. I do not enjoy being in SLUH’s NHS because it cheapens the value of community service drastically. When I do community service, I feel like it is for my NHS membership not for the individuals that I am serving. With the right leadership and approach, I do believe that it is possible to be a part of NHS while selflessly helping others. 2. SLUH’s NHS needs to understand that every NHS member is already committed to a multitude of other activities(an NHS prerequisite) which consequently places NHS towards the bottom of each member’s priority list. 3. I am not satisfied with the probation rules imposed on those who do not follow them. 4. The hours required for membership are exorbitant, and should be reconsidered. 5. When making and executing decisions for NHS, the NHS moderator’s judgement should be recognized and taken into consideration by the student officers of NHS. 6. Finally and most importantly, I firmly believe that Saint Louis University High School’s National Honor Society should be a student-led and ran organization. This is a non-negotiable fact if people expect me to speak highly of SLUH’s NHS in the future.
