Name: Joseph M. Daly on Aug 8, 2008are you a Lucas County resident: yesPlease share your comments about the Lucas County Dog Warden (negative experiences, suggestions): Thank you for your concern. It has been brought to my attention that Mr. Skeldon recently raided a womans home and confiscated her dogs,1 female and 6 pups. He charged her $250.00 to get the female back and when she asked to get the pups back he stated that there would be an additional $250.00 fee for each of the pups (4-5 week old unweaned). The woman was unable to pay the fee and the unweaned pups were euthanizied. There is a case in the Toledo municipal court that states that unweaned pups could not be considered vicious based on the definition of a vicious dog and based on developmental issues. This is clearly unlawfulFlag

A few maybe dangerous but not every one of them. Tom is acting like Hitler. I am for spay/neutering to help stop dog fighting and for education and improvements.Flag

Name: Barbara Mc Graady on Aug 8, 2008are you a Lucas County resident:Please share your comments about the Lucas County Dog Warden (negative experiences, suggestions): I heard Skeldon on a talk radio station suggesting it was a good idea to "just drop those stray cats off in the country." I believe the station was WSPD. My husband immediately called in to Animal Behaviorist Warren Eckstein's radio talk show, THE PET SHOW, and asked what he thought about Skeldon's comment about dumping cats in the country. Mr. Eckstein was livid. Skeldon has a political agenda, and I know of very few people who think he is on track. I am in contact with animal rescue organizations and those who love animals from all across the United States. Everyone is in an uproar about Skeldon's dislike of all pit bulls and anything that looks remotely like a pit bull. Any one with any real level of education regarding animals understands that it is the owner, not the breed. Are there a lot of viscious pit bulls in Toledo You bet... but it is because there are a lot of drug users in Lucas County who acquire pit bulls to guard their stash. We just returned from participating in a community (Ssandusky County) event for children at the county building. The fire department, police, state highway patrol, WSOS, etc. and our organization, Society for the Protection of Animals, Inc. were there. We, S.P.A., took a rescued pit bull to interact with the children. She is the only foster dog that we trust 110% with children. I use her in my compassion education presentations. Check her photo out on our website. Look for BRIE WAS A BIG HIT... I suggest you call our Sandusky County Dog Warden, Fred Harris, for ideas on how to humanly improve your pound there. No, I am not a resident of Lucas County, thank goodness. If I were, I'd move, simply because of Skeldon. There are thousands of people who wonder what, exactly, is wrong with Lucas county commissioners. Whey would they reinstate someone like Skeldon year after year. Many people think they know why... Owners must learn to be responsible and CARE for their animals, while at the same time controlling their behavior and enviornment. Not all pit bulls are vicious.Flag

Pitbulls are the most loving animals and LOYAL animal that anyone can have You don't showcase family owned pitbulls that are loving and would NEVER hurt a fly. Tom Skeldon ONLY shows the mean pitbulls that were RAISED to be mean. ANY dog can be mean if it is trained that way and can do the same amount of harm a poor pitbull can do. German Shepards are more likely to bite then a pitbull but you do not here about that on the news. I have wanted for years to get Tom Skeldon out of that position but i did not know how to start, so thank you VERY much for stepping up and doing this for all of us pitbull LOVERS!Flag

Name: Pamela Wilson-Ross on Aug 8, 2008are you a Lucas County resident: yesPlease share your comments about the Lucas County Dog Warden (negative experiences, suggestions): Mr. Skeldon seems to be more focused on the elimination of the breed rather then the education of pet owner. The bull dog breed is penalized, not the irresponsible owner. The breeders also need to scrutinized, there should be some sort of process to help in monitoring who is buying these dogs. Perhaps individuals should have to apply for a permit to own these types of dogs. When asked, "does your dog bite" the answer is," all dogs have teeth, all dogs can bite." Responsible pet ownership should be inforced by what ever methods are available.Flag

Name: Krieg & Lisa Siwa on Aug 8, 2008are you a Lucas County resident: YesPlease share your comments about the Lucas County Dog Warden (negative experiences, suggestions): As a resident of Lucas County it is sickening that this is allowed to happen in the United States of America. Under the letter of the law, any animal could be classified as "property." After all, I work 40+ hours a week to afford money to spend on whatever I so choose, and some of what I choose to spend it on is the ownership of pets. My wife and I own three cats - no dogs - but we understand the plight of dog owners who wish to care for and raise whatever type of dog they wish. What's next Where does it end If we ban pit bulls then the next "vicious breed" will be targeted and so on until corrupt men like Tom Skeldon take away all of our beloved pets because of some immoral government act whereby corrupt individuals think they are "doing us a service." Last time I looked, Mr. Skeldon, I am over 18 and adult enough to make rational decisions for myself and my family. And others should have the rights as well. Any man who attempts to restrict the liberty and freedoms of people to own, train, care for and enjoy the company of an animal is a man who does not belong in an office such as Dog Warden. Last time I looked this was still the United States, not Communist Russia, Mr. Skeldon! Shame on you and shame on our Communist, er I mean County Commissioners, for the obvious nepotism and inept ways they run this county on their own agenda rather than that of the voters who elected them to maintain or freedoms and liberties.Flag

The economy in Toledo is awful, people are loosing homes and pets, due to jobs. I know I was one of them!!! Give the people in the city a break. I paid my license for 2 dogs for many years, they even showed up at my home several times to see if the licenses were current (give me a break) maybe this was the reason for the increase of fees. . My son has 2 wonderful "Pits" with no ounce of agression, for pete sakes they get there nails painted. They even spent 2 months at my home in Toledo. I had no complaints from neighbors and I even walked them around my block every evening. Most people could not believe they were pitbulls and stated many times what babies they were. Good Luck Comittee. I wish I was still a resident I would help you in any way I could. Maybe Skeldon's next job could be a handler with vicous dogs. Kudos to you all!!!!Flag

The county needs assistance and education regarding vicious dog not a witch hunt. Also, in regards to the micro chip for dogs, why would he instantly negate an action before researching the possiblity of assisting in returning a dog to it's proper owner. I have called the dog warden in the past looking for a dog and they are reluctant to give information out. Isn't that one of the services of the Warden's office to help find the owner instead of telling person over the phone if they do or don't have an animal bearing the description you gave them over the phone I have always viewed the Dog Warden (nice name don't you think) as a service that puts animals down as a nusiance and not to help find owners and homes.Flag

He does not have the animals best interests at heart, is closed minded and does not care to do his job appropriately. I am sure there are many other individuals better qualified who can be open-minded and work with the taxpayers who have every right to expect adequate services in their county. Bottom line - you can't have someone who clearly hates 'certain' dogs in this position - it is not fair to the dogs or their owners. Mr Skeldon has had plenty of time in his 20 years as warden to do a good job - it is obvious he never will.Flag
