Comments: We're visiting the island for the first time ever with 3 small children and are horrified and disgusted at the extortionate rip-off fares being charged... Nearly £200!!!! I can fly to Europe for less than that . FERRY COMPANIES should be ashamed of yourselves!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments: I'm shocked at the cost of a ferry crossing to the isle of wight (£140/160 [wightlink/red_funnel] just for one car and 2 people) - and *why* the "length of stay" has any bearing on the cost is beyond me. I'm considering cancelling my holiday to the IOW. If we do go, we certainly won't be spending on any "touristy" stuff - lousy ferry companies

Comments: I have recently moved out of my family home on the island and moved in with my girlfriend in Portsmouth. The cost of ferry fairs are putting a real strain on our families relationship as we simply can't afford to visit often. Do these ferry companies realise the personal affects they are putting on islanders and their families, all for personal greed?

Comments: At least they should subsidise island residents as most countries around the world do (e.g. Italy). It is important to get of the island from time to time in particular for kids. If it is unaffordable children will miss out on broadening their horizon. Thank you.

Comments: I don't understand why the charge for a return trip increases with the number of days spent between outward and homeward journeys. It is not a hotel booking, but a return journey, which should be the same price for any length of stay.

Comments: Compared with the French ferries the IOW ones are ridiculously expensive and damaging to the tourist trade and economy of the island.

Comments: Friends have moved down to IoW in past 12 months. I try and get to see them 3 or 4 times a year but the biggest cost involved is the near £100 it costs to get me and my car over that small stretch of water. I wonder what the true costs are of this service and just how much mark up is made on prices. Talking of that £100 or so, return flights to Barcelona for both a friend and I cost a fraction of that earlier in the year. This company should not be allowed to put such a cost on people popping over for short trips to see family and friends!

Comments: I rarely get to see my family on the mainland as the cost of the ferry travel is ridiculous. The vouchers islanders receive every now and then help but it is still sometimes beyond a joke!

Comments: Ferry charges are far too high, there should be bigger reductions for Island residents.

Comments: We need to go over the the IOW frequently to visit my husband's elederly parents and are finding it more and more expensive. Unfortunately it is now impossible for my in-laws to travel over to the mainland. The expense also stops their grandchildren going over as much as they would so my in-laws are missing out on seeing their grandchildren and now great grandchildren more.
