I would like to visit the iseland more often but the cost of the ferry for one person in a car is far too expensive. I have decided to spend more time on main land beaches instead
I commuted on the RF car ferry for 17years. Since then I`ve noticed the differences. If you book a day return and arrive back at a different time you sometimes have to pay a surcharge. If the ferry is delayed or cancelled the company gives you no refund just an apology. They make the rules to suit themselves(on the London underground it works both ways).I can`t afford the ferry fares any more so have to stay on the IOW. My freedom in 2009 is being curtailed by greedy ferry companies who just want to maximise profits and forget that we Islanders need to use the ferries more than the holiday makers who maybe travel just the once...Our childrens education is affected. Many don`t get the experiences that travel offers and unemployed people can`t afford to take jobs on the mainland. I can`t understand why people on the IOW don`t demand a bridge because this exploitation by the ferry companies will get worst..
Although not an islander I have huge sympathy with this cause having just spoken with one of the ferry operators regarding a tourist trip to the island. They were unable to provide me with any definitive outline of the various tickets and fares available and the restrictions applicable: having initially referred me to their website they then admitted that the information I requested is not supplied there either. The prices quoted to me (£75, £90, £105 or £125 for 3 people and a car for a 36 hr trip) were all substantially more than I ever have to pay to cross the channel to France for a trip of the same duration.
too expensive would travel more to i o w if ferry prices were more reasonable cant be good for the tourist industry
the prices of ferries have reached unfair and extortionate levels...reduced fares by 40% NOW !
r.i.p.off.....why do island residents get penalised in summer with seasonal increases when fuel/wages etc dont go up blatent exploitation... i was told by an employee that just 1 trip on the old ceadmon (early post boat ) covered all the cost for all lymington ferries for the whole day...the staff are extremely rude in the terminal car parks with german ss agression and manners oh they also charge you an extra 13 pounds to get on an early er ferry even if its empty....
16.80 for a day return and no offers!
