Islanders find it difficult and expensive to get to the mainland. Visitors too. If the Island is to prosper as a holiday destination, or if business that physically export are to grow on the Island, there needs to be some form of control on the pricing. It isn't a free market, when there no real option, it's a duopoly. If you're on foot, support a local business and take the HoverTravel Hovercraft. It's quicker and more fun too!
travel every week the cost of living is as high on the isle of wight as it is in the south of england and our wages are lower , therefore have to cross the solent. these fairs are crippling!

I would travel regularly from the island, but I need to take my car as I am disabled and I simply can't afford it!

I use the ferries every week for business and pleasure and would welcome a investigation into the prices. We all know that living on the island has to cost more because of the ferries but lets have some sort of regulation into the fare's that we pay.
I could not find an NHS dentist on the island so I had to register with the nearest one with NHS vacancies in Portsmouth. The ferry and hover fares are so expensive that it is difficult for me to afford them. Although I would like to visit the mainland more frequently, I cannot afford to.

It is more expensive mile for mile to take my car on the ferry across the solent than it is to ship it to the USA on the QE2

Annual visitor to the Island (sometimes twice a year). Astonished by cost of travel compared to cross-channel ferries I have used.
build a bridge

I am part of an Island based rock group. We travel regularly to London and the south for shows and the cost is crippling. When we bring bands down the play the Island. They are staggered at the crazy cost of travel. It costs us over £75 every time we travel. Crazy money.

I am a single parent on benefits and it is very hard to get to see my friends and family on the mainland more because of the ferry prices. Even if they came down a couple of pounds it would be a help. Maybe even concessions for people on benefits etc. would be an idea. Thanks.

I payed £106 for a return trip with car in October. I appreciate it was a peak time rate but still feel ripped off! If I could ride my bike the short distance between shores I would. Rob
Hooray for HoverTravel. They are a credit to the Island. Lets all boycott Wightlink and use the Hovercraft!!!

Some ferries to France are cheaper!
The prices are disproportionate to those to europe. And stop tourists and the income we would provide.
Place your comments on http://www.crossingthesolent.blogspot.com/ and give further feedback. In four years I've yet to experience anything but ordinary, at best bland service. Their prices need to have the service levels to match.

It is wrong and unfair the prices these companies charge.
wightlink is a farce, the inflated fares we're expected to pay for this unreliable service on dilapidated vessels is disgusting.

The price of ferries is hard to budget for. I am a trainee and simply can't afford to leave the island to visit my friends and family. It makes my experience of living on the Island, an unhappy and dissatisfactory one when it should be happy. Everything else about the IOW is lovely, red funnel has a large impact on my enjoyment of home.....
The prices are getting ridiculous. My elderly grandmother lives on her own and the family who all live onthe mainland are finding the cost to visit too expensive so visits are getting less. It's too much.
Wightlink, owned by an Australian Bank, no wonder it''s a rip-off. Time for a bridge or a tunnel.
