We need a fixed link. Now. I laugh to see the A3 at Hindhead described as a 'bottleneck'. Them overners have no idea. The lack of a fixed link between the Island and the mainland is a breach of human rights and a restraint of trade. I don't want the Australian ferrycompany blacklisting my name from the signatures list, so will sign off as Tim C.
WEEKLY COMMUTER
and then to be expanding the ferry port at Yarmouth as well, the town will be ruined.

The ferrries are too dear. We have a daughter living on the mainland who finds it just too expensive to bring her car over when she wants to visit.
Why do they not give a real discount for Islanders. Hotels offer free ferry crossings, the ferry companies can afford to reduce the fares particularly after the fortune they make due to the festivals on the Island
This has always been known as the most expensive stretch of water, it must have an effect on tourism and certainly relatives think carefully before popping over to see family and friends. It is time to make it the fairest stretch of water to cross. No more asset stripping and give us a FAIR DEAL

Fares much too high for ordinary people like us.
We need a bridgetunnel across the Solent, Its the only salvation!

Due to work comitments on the IOW I have to change my ferry booking with Red Funnel. I arrived with 5 minutes to spare to be told that my ticket (£60) was for off peak, so that I would now have to pay the excess at the ticket office. There I was in a queue and so missed my ferry. Fee went up to over £70 I therefore missed avery important meeting in Southampton as a direct result of this action!
We have no choice in the matter as there only two companies to get us away the island. There only interest is to make money and lots of it. They know that they have no one to answer to, and whatever price they set we have to pay.
I feel that it is a crying shame what is being charge for the ferries to IOW, bearing in mind that it is the only means of transport to and from the island to the main land. If the costs were lower then more people would consider going accross opn a more regular basis.
Far far to expensive
We would be able to see our families on the mainland more often or they would visit us more if the ferry companies had cheaper fares

As a Ryde Business man I find I have to travel to the mainland on numerous occasions to attend meetings and conventions in Europe and people find it astonishing that it cost me over £50.00+ just to reach Mainland England as well as adding on at least 3 Hours travelling time to any journey.

It costs us more to travel the few miles it is to cross the solent with our carthan it does to fly from Heathrow to Mallorca when we go on holiday. Wightlink often have special offers that give low price travel to the Island but not from and are therefore penalising those of us who want to leave the Island, whatever the reason.

The prices and the delays are getting worse every year. What is the point in booking for a specific crossing time , as it is usually subject to a delay ?
My daughter took a job teaching at West Wight Middle School 10 years ago. She is now married to an islander and has a young child. The only way we can see her and our grandaughter is to drive for 3 hours then board a ferry which adds anything from 1 hour to 2 hours to the journey. The cost to ua is about £100 per trip and the ferry is 60-70% of this. I live near to Dover and can travel to Calais twice for the same outlay. My daughter is contributing to the future of the island through her work. I think we should be able to continue our family ties and influence our grandaughters development by having the ability to travel and see them more easily and affordably.
ferry prices are way to high and are a pain when busy or when you miss them by a few minutes due to traffic etc then have to wait an hour or more for next one!!! If it was anywhere else in the world they would have built a bridge years ago cos it would cut down on journey time, hassle and most of all being ripped off by these ferry companies..... i would rather pay the same amount to use a bridge which would take a few minutes to drive across than to waste an hour or more on a boat!

The pricing and punctuality of Wightlink are making any journies to the mainland a misery. With just 2 companies ruling our travel on and off the Island we will soon not be viable as either a tourist or business Island. With no solution in sight a bridge seems the only way to go.
Get those ridiculously high prices down. You'll get more people using the ferries and more frequently. You'll make more money from the on board cafe/bar. It is currently unjustifiable from what I can see.
What can I say? Expensive and unreliable If I want to take my young children out for the day it costs me at the very least £40 before I've even left the Island and adds an extra 2 hours travelling time to and from the Island. I recently had to visit my 97 year old grandmother in Southampton Hospital (she lives on the island). I could only afford to visit every two weeks as it cost me £35 each time ( a car day return). The price of taking the ferry as foot passenger was even more expensive when you add parking at the ferry and bus fares the other side. It cost my father-in-law, a pensioner, £20 a day as a foot passenger! How disgusting is that? The Wightlink passenger catamaran never connects with the London trains, never waits for the football supporters returning from Fratton Park and quite often leaves early and not to mention their disgusting customer service. Wightlink have by far the most rude and unhelpful ticket office staff, weary no doubt, from all the customer complaints.

Isle of wight ferries are too expensive and thats just the travel, you should see the food prices on board.
Commute every day, and watch the prices increase far faster than my salary - its just not sustainable.
The car and passenger ferries to and from the Isle of Wight are the most expensive per mile than any others in the world. The reason is that the two companies, Red Funnel and Wightlink have no competition and appear to be in co-operation with one another to keep prices at excessively high levels. This has being going on for years and each so-called independent investigation has widely been regarded as a whitewash. It is time situation this was tackled seriously, and truly independently, with a view to ending what appears to be a systematic fraud.

I cant understand why ferry prices are so inconsistent and fluctuate so irrationally. Buying a season ticket saves you only 70p per journey on Red Jet. The companies are holding the island to ransom.
It's not like we are asking the companies to slash prices just to go easier on regular travelers. Nearly £14.00 for a twenty minute journey. Value for money?

I travel across from the island to Fawley every day and as an apprentice, i applied for the student discounts, I was then told that even though i have a signed form and letter from my college, i was too old to qualify for discount. A large quantity of Brockenhurst college students are over 18 so don't qualify either. Why is it so expensive for ALL of us, even a motorcycle, which gets put in areas that cars cannot fit on deck is charged more than half that of a car. WHY???????
