7 William R. Hurd, Jr.Let Heather's voice be hurd! No one should have their life cut short by the senseless acts of cel phoning and text messaging while driving. Save lifes and make Heather's Law a reality.
8 Margaret HurdHeather can't be brought back to her family with the signing of this petition. But, her voice can be heard by signing this petition and letting our State and National representatives know we want Heather's Law to be passed. Save someone from having their dreams and hopes taken from them. Save another family from the pain and sorrow of missing a dear family member and friend. Please, Please pass Heather's Law and make Highway 27 safer for all who must drive the highway everyday. Hear Heather's voice from above and pass the law, lower speed limits, add warning signs, and flashing lights to warn of dangerous intersections. All of these things could have saved Heather and allowed her to live her dreams. We are pleading with you to hear us.
9 Janet AndersonThe studies performed by the FDOT, Federal and State Govts are obviously not working in this area. Please reconsider the current speed limit and post proper signage.

14 Heather's GrannyI lost my first grandchild Heather on January 3rd. 2008. On that day my entire family died along with Heather. We will never be the same. Changing the conditions on our highways will not bring Heather back, but it will make Heather's voice be heard. Please sign and save lives. I love you Heather!

18 Tom LagosIt is a sad state of affairs that there is very little law enforcement deterrent to prevent the out of control speeding that contributes to the high death rate on this stretch of road.

23 Irving ArmstrongI myself, was almost invovled in a near miss on hwy #27. A tractor-trailer at excessive speed, almost ran into the back of my car, causing me to break the speed limit to get away.

27 Gerry MullerI have lived in five countries, some with atrocious driving habits. Some months ago I moved to Deer Creek Park on Hwy 27. To enter this Hwy from a side road is no doubt is the most dangerous and terrifying experience I have ever come across. Worse driving a motor-home out of the park with a car in tow. The odds are very much against you if you need to make a left hand turn of having clear traffic in all lanes. You have to stop on the median. The median is not wide enough to accommodate both vehicle which leaves the tow car protruding into the left lane. The Deer Creek Park crossing also serves for numerous motorists having to make U-turns, including trucks. I have been stuck on this median with 5 other mostly SUVs and unable to see any oncoming traffic and not being able to move for some time. How many people must still be killed before some sensible safety devices are put in place??. 1. Reduction of Speed limits. 2. Place adequate warning signs of Traffic lights ahead. 3.Install traffic lights where they are desperately needed.?

45 Elizabeth MalaveHeather Hurd was such a good person and to loose her this way seems unreal. She was so excited about the new year. The most important thing on her mind was her wedding. On her way to plan for her wedding another driver decided that looking at his cell phone and texting was more important than the other lives on the road with him. You think its only a few seconds and you can still pay attention to what is in front of you, but you cant! This truck driver ran the red light and cause a mutli car accident that left two lives lost, one of them was my friend Heather Hurd. I have never really had a friend who passed away. Loosing Heather hit me harder than I thought it would. She was such a good friend and I know she was looking forward to so many things in her life. The law to ban texting while driving is something every state needs. As technology continues to grow we as a society must grow along with it, and this mean coming up with ways to help protect our citizens. Everyone should be held responsible for their actions. If you choose to text and drive and you get stopped by a police officer then you should get a ticket. I hope our voices are heard and this law and similar laws to help protect the people we care about are passed. Together I do believe we can make a difference! My Highway 27 Story: I don't live on Highway 27 but I do take that road occasionally when visiting friends or if I am going in that direction to go home. That road is for a lack of a better word, "Scary". I think every driver on that road thinks the speed limit is 70mph and above. I try to stay in the slow lane on the far right as much as I can and even in that lane I have folks driving at top speed right behind me. I have since, found other roads to travel on. Hwy 27 is a very convenient and I wouldn't mind taking that road more often if I wasn't afraid for my life. Loosing my friend on that road and hearing many other traffic tragedies have really made me stay away. I might travel on 27 more if the speed limit was enforced more.

48 Heather FredericksNot only is the speed limit way to high but the road has to many hills it makes it even more unsafe. My Grandfather got killed on Jan 11th 2008 on "bloody 27" and I own a business on it and I watch accidents happen all the time
