For DMV drivers, I don't need to retell the story as all of our stories are unfortunately the same, however I will for the general audience. I was a Tyson's Corner commuter from Maryland, and was very excited when the I-495 express lanes finally opened. While this only afforded me one exit to my destination, everyone knows that one exit could mean a savings of at least 20 minutes in the evening. At a cost of .30 - .60 cents per trip it was well worth it, so I thought. At the time, I had an E-Z Pass for at least 2 years which is needed to use the express lanes, and got a very unpleasant notice from Transurban stating that I had 30 trips (15 round trips) which incured a $12.50 "administrative fee" per trip. I called E-Z Pass and unfortunately found out that two companies are not related, and they stop honoring my trips because my credit card expired. Thinking I will put the proper credit card back on file, I could call and get the fees waived, or at minimum reduced as a $15 dollars total trip plus once piece of paper and envelope to mail it in shouldn't warrant a $375 admin fee. I called, and long story short, was only given one option. Pay or else. That else? Well within two weeks of that call, I was sent to a collection agency for 30 separate accounts for $101 each. Over $3000, for $15 worth in trips. So I started googling it and realized there have been worse cases, summons for court, $10,000 cases, and the VA courts haven't been very helpful. As others have suggested, we need a start a class action. Please join the discussion, sign the petition, and if anyone is willing to take on this potential class action, please send contact information. Someone needs to stop this Australian company in its tracks, as it is well known, the express lanes are not producing enough money, however, I refuse to fund their loss!
