Name: Anonymous on Aug 28, 2006Comments: I would hope this is a case of a few ignorant persons who do not like the idea of pot bellied pigs and their claim is baseless. I also hope that the owners of the pot bellies are responsible owners and keep them in a clean smell free and pest free enviroment by taking care of them and their enviroment daily. My pot belly is cleaner and has better manners than both of my dogs.Flag

Name: Lynda L. Donovan on Aug 29, 2006Comments: I live in the city of Davis California and have two potbelly pigs. One my son brought home at the age of 3 months old and one I got from a lady at 8 days old. They were raised in the house, very clean, in fact cleaner than my cat or 6 dogs. They are now 8 and 9 years old. They are let out in the front yard where they have been seen by neighbors, other animals and law enforcement officers, none have ever had a problem. The claims that the Murpheys are stating sound like they are animal haters in general. They should be the ones removed fromt he town not the Pot Bellies.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Aug 29, 2006Comments: It is evident that the Murphy's are "uneducated" on the subject , of pot belly pigs, in which they are making statements. The pot belly pig is a "wonderful and extremely CLEAN house pet". It's intelligence is that of a 3 year old child, as stated by the Discovery Channel on the 10 most intelligant animals on earth. Separating these pets from its owner would be a "death sentence and an inhumane act". Let's get realistic and compare the number of attacks and injuries caused by dogs to those by the pot belly pig.Flag

After all, the pigs have lived there for 13 years and there were no aggressive bites or attacks, no outbreak of rabies or other diseases! And no matter what zoning laws you change, do not force these pigs to be removed from their live long home!Flag

Name: Robyn McLaughlin on Aug 31, 2006Comments: The claims the Murphy's are making are totally outrageous! I own two potbellies, who reside in my back yard and, like any any animal, they are as clean as their caretakers allow them to be. We've had no complaints. In fact, our neighbors love our pot-bellies! My 35 piano students also think they are pretty neat...they are certainly not a hazard and the do not smell. Now I have encountered some pretty smelly dogs over the years...wandering cats are a real nuscience, too! Sounds to me like the Murphy's don't like animals, in general. Pets are not disposable. What'll they go after next--your dog or cat Pet birds can be pretty darn loud and annoying...perhaps the City should ban those, too...Flag

Name: Cindy Taylor on Aug 31, 2006Comments: It is absurd that the City of Lake Forest would give in to the Murphys' demands on removing the 3 potbelly pigs which have lived there for 13 years! The city allowed them to be there all this time and NOW are giving in to people complaining after they moved to the area Ms. Walgreen and the potbelly pigs were there FIRST! The Murphys didn't have to move there if they were so upset with 3 little piggys living there. Plus, the City would be signing the death certificate of these older pigs to make them move away from their home after being with Ms. Walgreen all their lives. Send the Murphys off for some real education about pigs. Whey they ask "How can the citizens protect themselves against 400 lb animals" they make it sound like these elderly pigs are going to leave their property and run through the city of Lake Forest mowing everyone down in their path. Give me a Break! The real bottom line is that the Murphys don't want to smell the excrement of those 3 pigs on a windy day. But they should have thought of that before they moved beside the pigs' home! I urge you, City Council, to think clearly about this. You cannot, in good conscience, make Ms. Walgreen get rid of these 3 pigs who are loving and intelligent members of her family. If you want to do something, pass an ordinance about future pigs being brough in, but don't take away the rights of these pigs to live where they are, and have been living all these years!Flag

As long as we are not hurting others why should anyone care who we choose to share our lives with! Potbelly Pigs are extremely sensitive, smart, clean and caring creatures. I for one am proud to share my home and life with these wonderful angels!Flag

Name: Charles on Sep 2, 2006Comments: These Potbelly Pigs have been permitted to share their lives with this woman and her family for more than a decade, why should they be forced to part Most likely it was a narrow-minded old biddy that has never felt the unconditional love that can only be given by these very special creatures that is behind the push to remove these angels! Potbelly Pigs are in the US legally, they did not sneak across the border! They are not dangerous nor do they transmit disease, they are far cleaner than most dogs, unless frightened they make very little noise, there are less likely to bite than dogs. I share my home with 3 of these wonderful creatures and would be lost without them!! My be the person who filed the complaint should have the stick removed from their ass and mind their own business!Flag

Name: Malissa C. Vavra on Sep 4, 2006Comments: Mrs. Walgreen's animals are pets, not livestock. New facts are learned about different animals every day, and just because someone in the past has come up with a "derogatory" saying including the word "pig" doesn't make it true. If the complainants would open their minds and learn about potbellied pigs instead of basing their claims on some derogatory saying from the past, they would find out that pigs are not dirty smelly creatures, they are loving and surprisingly clean, much cleaner and smarter than many people I have met. You would be surprised to find out that pigs, and many other animals in general, earn the title of "smelly, dirty, unsanitary creatures" as a result of the way they are treated, handled, and housed by the so-called "smartest" creature . . . HUMANS!!! Maybe our culture needs to step back and reevaluate their opinion of pigs, and many other animals in general. Only through education will a person be able to understand the benefits of a companion animal, regardless of the species. What species will be the next one to be disputed in the courts . . . dogs, cats, birds, fish The list could be endless.Flag

If they haven't depleted the property value this far why would it be an issue now Why would they buy property knowing they were there to begin with if they had an issue with itFlag

Name: Anonymous on Sep 12, 2006Comments: When properly cared for, pot bellied pigs are clean, docile and quiet. I owned a pig fpr 12 years and he did not smell, was quiet unless provoked, and was the best pet I ever had. All of the claims made by the people compaining could just as easily be applied to dogs. They need to open their minds and step away from the stereotype that pigs have. Thay are clean, loving animals. Taking them away from someone who has loved them for so long would be a crime.Flag

I have found that my pig is much cleaner, quiter and better behaved than my dog. They are easily trainable and very affectionate. I suggest you get to know the pigs and see for yourself that they are no threat to humans or property. Pigs are family.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Nov 21, 2006Comments: I have lived in IL for the past 30 years and worked in Lake Forest for the past 5. For those of you not familiar with the town of Lake Forest, IL, let me paint you a picture. Lake Forest is a weathly "North Shore" suburb of Chicago that consists mostly of pompass individuals, such as the Murphys, that thrive on drama. This is the same town that became outraged when Mr. T. had trees removed from his personal property back in the 80's. Cathy & Bob should mind their own damn business and focus their energy on something positive. I can't believe they reported being "terrified" of a couple pigs. When is the last time killer pigs made the evening news PLEASE!!!Flag

Well to make a story short I won against the town when they request me to have remove mine from my home. Look into town laws and also talk to the vet in your area to see if anyone one else owns one in your town that would help due to making everyone remove their pig that is how I won my case. Good Luck and have faithFlag

Name: Julia Warta on Feb 13, 2007Comments: I own a potbelly pig, and love her to pieces. If I would have known how wonderful they are I would never have had a dog! She is much cleaner then our dogs, she does not stink like a dog, or shed like the dogs. She is a muc better companion to me then the dogs also. Those people are stupid to think that it is wild because it is a pig. My baby is like a little kid, I'm her mommy and she would be lost without me! If I'm sick and in bed for a day, she will come looking for me. She cuddles with my husband and I at night while we watch TV, if we are on the computer late and she doesn't want to go to bed alone she will make noises to have me pick her up so she can be rocked (also hummed to) to sleep. Dogs and cats seem to be able to take on a new owner if they have to, but I can't see a pig doing it. They bond very close to their "parents" that adopt them. The article did not say who lived there first, the pigs or the neighbors. Growing up on a pig farm (regular pigs you eat) we had new neighbors move in once and wanted us to get rid of the pigs. We were there first and if they don't like the neighborhood they shouldn't have moved there and can move away. I pray they don't take those babies from their parents.Flag
