Comments: Estelle Walgreen has lived in Lake Forest, IL with her 3 potbelly pigs for 13 years! The city has issued dog licenses (lacking potbelly pig tags) for them for over a decade. Suddenly, after some grumbling from a new neighbor, they want them OUT! Why does one fanatic moving into the neighborhood get to change things that have worked fine for 13 yrs Ignoring expert testimony on potbelly pig facts and testimony that the elderly pigs (Pinky is 13 and Piggy is 12) will die from a broken heart if they are forced to leave their home and family. Pigs are very loyal and become very attached to their owners. To move them would most likely cause them to die of a broken heart.. They don't have that many years ahead of them, why can't you just leave them alone and grandfather them in Weight: Animal of this weight could easily kill or injure a human being. Does that mean we shouldn't allow overweight people out in public cuz they might trip and fall on someone, and KILL them Aggression: As evidenced by Roy, the famous lion tamer, an animal is an animal. But this is a PIG not a tiger. And any animal CAN be aggressive.. So that means we should outlaw dogs who could bite, cats who could scratch, birds, (my daughter had one MEAN cockatoo!) , and snakes could swallow people Health: We are deeply concerned about the excrement and urination of these massive animals. I have a potbellied pig, and her droppings are nothing. And you can buy pig poop at pigpoop.com, so how bad can it be Swine don't belong here. They belong on a farm, in a zoo or back in the wild! Potbellied pigs are NOT swine to be raised for food. They don't belong in zoos.. And where do you think potbellied pigs are running in the wild The English language abounds with unflattering references and idioms involving pigs. There are a lot ugly references and jokes about lawyers too, but we can't outlaw them.. A full grown potbelly pig should weigh only 95 pounds full grown Pigs like people, aren't a uniform same size.. We heard a continuous "belching" sound coming from our new neighbor's back yard. I've never heard my Susie belch once in 6 yrs.. Our Susie is a beautiful girl, and everyone loves her! It would break our hearts if we were told we had to get rid of her! I would fight tooth and nail to keep her too! SO HAVE A HEART!!!

Comments: I have had neighbors complain about my pot bellied pigs. They have dogs that bark all day and all night, while my pigs sleep all day and all night. But I didn't file a complaint about that! As for the smell, even dog poop draws flies, and cats will run the neighborhood and go potty wherever they feel and ON whatever they want to.

Comments: Pot bellied Pigs are very SWEET, LOVING AND CLEAN pets. They are EXTREMELY intelligent. They are the same as having large dogs. Mrs. Walgreen has had these pets for over 10 years. They should not be forced to move! With as much money as she certainly must have, I am sure that these piggies are well maintained and are very clean. It just sounds like sour grapes on the part of the Murphy's!!!!

Comments: I think Estelle's neighbours are absolutely rediculous! If they win this case I think it will be a sad day for any of us who think we have rights. Can just anyone make up lies and call it the truth. Not one thing they said about PBP's is the truth. They are not aggressive, they do not stink.......... they are actually very sensitive creatures that are extremely intellegent, who have a great desire to be love AND NOT eaten. I have 5 , and will have more. They are most precious and deserved to be treated as domestic pets.

Comments: Two questions: 1. Has anyone noticed that the previous neighbors apparently had no issues with either the pigs or the owners and 2. Unless the Murphy's are at least 8 feet tall, they have no business peeking over a 7 foot privacy fence and should be arrested as peeping toms. and one comment: Regarding the eating and excrement (one will follow the other)...the same could be said of the Murphy's children.

Comments: Horseflies, digging under fences, hog farm, petting zoo. Safety, and sanitation, for gods sake are these people just so un educated that they dont know they are showing their ignorance to the fact that they need to get a life, if they took the time to 'find out' about pet potbellied pigs they would know, that they are very clean animals, inteligent - dont l root under fences and 'eat' people!. Give me a pig anyday - more so than a dog. Mrs Walgreen has had her pigs for 13 years ! and 'funny' that only now this new neighbour has decided to complain, the pigs should stay, they are old and would surely pine or die been moved or seperated. I have pots myself, they dont smell, and have been my pets for the last 12 years.

Comments: Arrogant American intolerance at its best. Whatever happened to the melting pot Try appreciating the 'different' pet next door (they're quieter, smarter, and, kept properly and trained properly (these are the things your laws should target), are cleaner and less potentially dangerous than a dog)...it might help you learn to appreciate the 'different' (as in Muslim) human being on the other side of the planet. Tolerance is an American fundamental ---Grow up. Our animals-Our teachers.

Comments: Pot Bellies are by nature, sedate creatures that sleep a lot, do not bark, and basically are cleaner about their habits than dogs. Someone's prejudice against the word Pig or the appearance of an animal should not dictate policy. Responsible pet owners do not get cited for unsanitary conditions nor do they get cited for animals who are repeatedly getting out.. The facts are: - you don't hear of pot belly pig maulings in the news; only dog attacks. How many pig bite cases have been documented, as opposed to dog bites - Pot Bellies, on a special diet because they are not edible farm swine, are much cleaner than the meat-eating pets such as dogs. - One of the misconceptions that is being given to cities and towns is the disease factor. There have been studies done that will give you in black and white the number and types of disease that are transmissible to humans by pigs, dogs and cats. The pigs come out the very best. Get the facts from the Center for Disease Control - they have written about this. - Lastly while it is true that the Dept. of Agriculture groups pot bellies as swine (Just as coyotes and dogs are both canines; house cats and mountain lions are both felines) officials there have written letters stating that Pot Belly pigs are pets. These are substantiated facts, not prejudices. I hope that rulings would be based on the former.

Comments: That is the problem, all the negative connotations that have been allowed to proliferate over the years. Why do these people just blindly take them for the truth Why not meet Ms. Walgreen's pigs and find out for themselves They would get an instant education! They would discover that pigs are highly intelligent, loyal, clean! quieter than dogs, their feces smell less than dogs, and SLEEP for a big portion of the day! At the ages that Ms. Walgreen's pigs are, they would not be a danger to anyone. Pigs are not vicious, but I can't count the number of people who have told me that they have a "friend of a friend" who knows someone that was killed and eaten by pigs. HOGWASH! These people need to get over the stereotypes, get out to one of the Sanctuaries out there, and meet some potbellies for themselves.

Comments: Dear Mr. Kiely, Reference to the pot Bellied pigs in question to not being allowed on this persons property; Please be advised that PBPigs are considered an exotic animal in the majority of towns & countys around the USA. These animals are not swine. Swine are for eating.PBP are for pets & they do make beautiful companions. They do not make noise, do not smell, & are much smarter than dogs. They are rated #2. I am sure the neighbors next to the PBP's make more noise & smell more than the pigs. Please consider this important matter. We have 4 pigs & are so happy to have them..... Our intelligent neighbors LOVE them to bit. Sincerely, Roy & Pat Trempy, Hackberry, Az 86411

Comments: I vote for Cathleen & Robert Murphy to be disposed of...they need to move away. I vote for the Pigs to be able to stay. The Murphy's need to get a life as well as all the neighbors who signed the petition. The Murphy's need to research more about the potbellied pigs. They don't have a clue about them and don't care. What insensitive human beings the Murphys are and I feel so sorry for what the Walgreens have to put up with. I'd like to help the pigs and family any way I can. If I were the Walgreens...and if the Murphy's don't move...I would get the heck out of that nightmare. The pigs come first.

Those that complained about these pigs should have done their research first. Also should hav ewaityed to see if the pigs were going to be aproblem before they all jumped on Mr. Murphy's band wagon, who clearly is a neighborhood trouble maker who may some day trun on them as well!

Comments: I had to laugh at some of the complaints that where listed. It is so far from the truth. I have a pig living in my house and she's cleaner than any dog I've ever own. Pigs will go potty in one spot, unlike a dog, they are usually very quiet and sleep a lot. They do not get fleas and are very docile creatures. I have never heard of a pot belly pig attacking someone and the only time they can be loud is if they are scared or if someone forgets to feed them. Ms. Walgreens neighbors really need to get a life and stop with all the exaggerations.

Comments: I am outraged by the allegations of the Murphy's. People that make such harsh statements are ignorant. As an owner of a 4 year old pot bellied named Wilbur and a friend of others that own pot bellies, I can say with 150% confidence that pot bellied pigs are the best of domestic pets. In fact, my Wilbur is house trained and sleeps next to my daughters bed every night. He is the most loving, non aggressive animal that I have owned. Pot bellies do not bark, they do not have fleas and they do not run away from home. They are smart and loving and sleep a lot. Their excrement does not cause any more flies or any more of a sanitary concern, than a dogs excrement, which as far as I know.. is not a problem.
