Comments: I am honored to have adopted 6 Pot Bellied Pigs over 6 years ago that were on there way to slaughter by a very ignorant former owner. These pigs are the best pet that anyone could ever think of having as part of their family. They are so much quieter then barking dogs, easier to take care of since they are smarter then dogs or cats. Pot Bellied Pigs are much cleaner then what uneducated people think they are. Mrs. Walgreen, who has had her Pot Bellied Pigs living in Lake Forrest for over 13 years now, is being unjustly stereotyped by people who are supposed to be upstanding educated citizens who are obviously not! The county commissioners for the Lake Forrest area MUST vote to allow Mrs. Walgreen to keep her family intake since they have allowed this family to be as one with these wonderful pets for the past 13 years. Pot Bellied Pigs are PETS and have been for a very long time now in the United States, if you vote to oust the pet pigs from Lake Forrest then any person with money can start a petition against their neighbor and what are they not going to like next If one of the county commissioners were to have a Great Dane or a Mastiff, you might have a neighbor who doesn

Comments: I think this is absolutely outrageous. These pigs are her family and she should not have to get rid of them just because some snoody home owner doesn't like the idea of living next to pigs. She needs to go educate herself on the REALITY of pigs and not just what ignorant people have come to think of them. Pigs are intelligent, social, and very loving animals and parting them (especially at such an old age) would be detrimental to their health. She lived in her old home for 13 years with no problems and should not to have to give them up at her new home just because some person is afraid of a few flies.

Comments: Obviously the city waits for someone else to lead. These pets have been there 13 years and the city didn't mind taking her money for "dog" licenses. Now they want her to get rid of them. Come on local officials, show some backbone for pets.

Comments: i am a foster parent of 2 pot-belly pigs. i have had dogs, cats, rabbits in my lifetime, but now first handed experience with pot belly pigs, all of the above negative comments are completely untrue. PBP's are quiet, clean, intelligent and loving. Pot-bellied pigs make the most wonderful pets, and i can atest to this by all of my neighbors, family and friends that do not share the same interests as me. Unfortunately PBP's always get a bad rap, but the comments made on this post are so exagerated lies that it makes me sad that people like this live on such a beautiful planet.

Comments: The ignorance of the neighbors in this case is just unreal. My pigs smell much less, cause less flies, than my dog. My dog smells, needs a bath on a regular basis and makes much more nose than my pigs do. PLEASE let Mrs. Wallgreen keep her pigs. The USDA considers them domestic house pets, not livestock, therefore your community should to. Please help her keep her pets.

Comments: This is the biggest crock I have ever heard. I have 2 potbellied pigs as pets myself, and I also am a zoning consultant for the pet potbellied pig. I have been involved with this case ,and I can not personally believe what I am reading..Swine : yes a Potbellied pig is swine. Just like a dog is canine, and a cat is a feline Canis Lupas is the gray wolf . canis lupus fimiliaris is the excepted canine pet ( common house dog) Felis silvestris is the wild cat. Felis silvesteris catus is the excepted feline pet (common house cat), Sus scrofa is the wild boar, Sus scrofa domestica is the excepted porcine pet .There are over 400,000 pet potbellied pigs living in homes all over this country today ,and they are very good neighbors. They not only do not attack people like some dogs, When have you ever heard about a potbellied breaking out of a yard and attacking someone They do not bark all night long. They make a subdued oofing sound..They are clean , inteligent animals and are one of the most sought after therapy pets in the US today. My own potbellied pig Reggie was honored to be picked by Life Magazine to be in their 1997 Hero edition for all the therapy work we have done all over our area. Potbellied pigs are pets and they have always been pets . They are not feeder or breeder pigs. Therefore they are not livestock. I have no idea where these people have gotten their missinformation from but it is deffinatly missinformation about the nature of the pet potbellied pig. They also do not pass on any deseases like the cat or dog.To ask anyone to get rid of 12 and 13 year old pets is the crime here not the fact that Estelle has them as her prized pets. This is a blantent misuse of her inalienable rights: The right to enjoy and defend life and liberty and to pursue happiness and to aquire, possess and protect property,( Her Pigs),and the right to privacy which reads in the US constitution: Every natural person has the right to be let alone and free from government intrusion into his private life. I will be more than happy to talk to anyone about this subject This is unbeleaveable

Comments: After 13 years because of a new neighbor Gimme a break! This is totally unfounded and ridiculous. I can't tell you how many times somebody's dog used my front lawn for a toilet. Did anybody do anything about banning dogs from the neighborhood Of course not. And believe me, dog poop is far worse than pig berries...especially when it isn't your own dog and it is in YOUR yard. Ms. Walgreen's neighbors need to get a life and demonstrate against illegal wars and other issues that really matter.

Comments: Once again, fear and ignorance rule. The scenes described above have nothing to do with reality ..... and the pet pig. It sounds like she is living next to a pig farm!! If people would take the time to research pet pigs, they would discover that they make loving, intelligent pets - that live in the home! They are far removed from farm animals. Become educated, don't take take ignornant peoples fantasies as facts.

Comments: Please do not make these elderly pigs leave their home the only one they have ever known, they will die of a broken heart, they are old would you remove a elderly person just because they may belch, which by the way pigs do NOT belch, they have a soft oooffing sound, and the neighbors imagination is running away with them, unless its not cleaned up for years there is NO smell to them at all and so they like to get into the mud why does that bother them its not them and its like a sun screen to the pig would they want to move just cause someone objected to them using sunscreen..pigs are very clean and dont smell or bark and keep the neighbors up at all hours these people really need to get a life instead of trying to cause trouble for a neighbor,..Jackie

Comments: Potbellied pigs, and actually pigs in general, are VERY clean creatures. They DO NOT have an odor at all. They prefer to be clean but lay in mud holes as a last resort to cool off or control bugs. They prefer a clean kiddie pool to lay in.

Comments: as a male chauvinist pig since the 70's, i do not consider it to be a derogatory term. our 16 year old pig Oliver has been a friend of the city of livermore ca for his entire life. the city has an exotic pet permit that costs $15 and includes an inspection of his habitat for his benefit and to insure sanitation is maintained. our two ducks and three cats are more of a sanitary problem than a pig. we'd never consider a dog, too messy.

Comments: Pigs are very clean. They don't attract any more flies than a horse - probably less. All our neighbors love our pigs and all stop by when they see them grazing in the front yard. They are social, lovable, friendly pets that pose no threat. They were there before the people moved in - therefore, tney should reserve the right to have been granddaddied in.

Comments: Any animal is only as dirty as his keeper is. Pigs in fact are one of the cleanest animals on this earth . The statements in this the read show clearly the lack of education on the speices . Fearing a pot belly pig is really quite laughable as they are a prey anaiml and have more to fear from man then anyone. Expert testimony has not been heard in this case. I would have to question wether this new neighbor is sound at all. And if she has some phobia for fat short legged creatures .

Comments: This is wrong I went to my city council meeting with all the positive things about pigs and our city manater at the time asked me if I wanted his job, I did such a good job, these neighbors just don't like pigs and don't understand that Potbellies, are pets, don't smell, don't attract flies, are not agressive, mine has been twice to NY on the letterman show, Stupid Pet tricks the show said he was the best pig they ever had on, merlot is loved by our neighborhood in fact everyone always asks about him since he hasn't been out in a while, one neighbor asks to bring him out for her friends, your town is so wrong in it's thinking, this lady and her pigs are not hurting our bothering you or the creeps that are causing this . You will break her heart and the pigs, if you look into the animals Pot bellies are considered excotics, they are not farm pigs, they don't wallow in the mud, they don't smell you really need to read up on them and fight for the right for them to stay I was allowed one pig one dog when they passed me and they had not a problem with me having my pig, GET REAL Lake Forest,
