Name: Derrick Rains on Dec 6, 2007Comments: I feel that although only a handfull of individuals were contacted about this that it will in fact affect several hundred home owners. Me and my family purchased our home because the current zoning restrictions as Residential. I would have never purchased in this area if I though there might be a chance of rezoning to Commercial and I know other home owners in this area would say the same thing. It would be devistating to many of your tax paying citizen to know that there biggest investment was ruined by an act such as this.Flag

Name: Derrick & Tina Rains on Dec 11, 2007Comments: We are most certainly opposed to this and we do not see this could increase the quality of life for any of the residents in Madison, AL. The main reason that we moved to this area was because its proximity to Highway 72 and the fact that all around us was zoned residential. We even took the time to become familiar with the Madison City Master Plans so that we would feel secure "investing" in our home and community. It would be a tragedy for the city to let this property to be rezoned as commercial. The Rains FamilyFlag

The main reason that we moved to this area was because of the fact that entire area was zoned residential and because of its proximity to quality schools, church, and shopping. We even took the time to become more familiar with the Madison City Master Plans before purchasing our property so that we would feel secure with "our investment" in our home and community. Name: Gerald H. Drake on Dec 11, 2007Comments: If approved, this decision will lower my property value. The neighborhood is great just as it is. Mr. Dowdy can locate his business in an area already zoned commercial area and leave our residential area alone!Flag

Name: John Rice on Dec 12, 2007Comments: Pebble Brook volunteers are spending countless hours and significant $$ on our entrance landscapes and signage. The purpose is to make it an even better community and promote neighbor involvement. We need to retain the residential character around this and nearby subdivisions. The proposal should be rejected and an R-1A buffer permanently applied.Flag

Name: Cheng Chu on Dec 13, 2007Comments: The rows of high raised pine trees alonh Gooch lane add distinct characters to Madison city. Any commercial establishment will erode this majastic view. To keep residencial area residencial, to keep this majastic view in whole, my family opposes this rezone proposal.Flag

Name: Stephanie Jeffrey on Dec 13, 2007Comments: No No NO NO NO! Traffic around here is getting rediculous and it's hard enough to get around on the roads that were not meant for anything other than small amounts of residential traffic. Gooch is too narrow for any kind of commercial traffic, it's already bad enough we have to deal with church traffic and Gooch Place.Flag

Name: David Sander on Dec 13, 2007Comments: Definitely NO!! The infrastructure of our beloved city is dysfunctional and becomes more so everyday. Freedom from noise, light pollution, and congestion is non-existent. Why are our city "leaders" so against Madison being a bedroom community Are they trying to compete against Huntsville Please quit. We don't want to be another Huntsville. Look for the next big mess to be the extension of Balch Road to Madison Boulevard. This will open up another north/south corridor to the Harvest/Monrovia community and increase the traffic count from ~5800 cars/day to over 15,000. The traffic count could be even higher as businesses are built along Balch Road between Palmer Road and Madison Boulevard.Flag

Name: Shirley Silvernail on Dec 14, 2007Comments: Madison has an abundance of empty store fronts as it is and to convert yet another piece of green space to commercial is irresponsible. The intersection where this land is located is already congested and dangerous so to add cars trying to enter and exit a building will be an added hazard. Gooch Lane between Wall Triana and Hughes is a small residential road so I'm asking that it not be changed in any way. All council members and the mayor should remember their election promises to maintain Madison as a environmentally friendly city.Flag

I bought the property because I liked the residential nature of the area. I feel rezoning the area to commercial so close to my property will have a negative impact on my property value.Flag

Name: Kenneth L. Silvernail on Dec 16, 2007Comments: Madison City has built enough small business strructures that are currently unoccupied. Our city officials need only look a block away on Chestnut Drive where business is very limited at best. Rezoning the proposed area for more of these structures will serve no purpose to the residential community that surrounds it. Wall Triana traffic is already over congested and the exit and entry to proposed site by construction vehicles will only decrease safety and further destroy the existing roadway. We, the affected residents, bought our homes with some degree of protection of our residential communities. We expect our city officials to honor their commitments to us and not to the potential contractors wanting to build more unused buildings.Flag

Name: Julio C. Driggs on Dec 17, 2007Comments: Once again we will need to fight for what is good for our community. City Leaders need to stand up and see that our infrastructure does not account for the additional traffic that this will create. Are we not alway hearing that we do not have the funds to widen or take care of the roads we currently have. has anyone seen the poor and unsafe work that is being allowed to happen on Wall Triana. I can't even imagine more traffic and needless stores that would occupy the space proposed. Time to look for a new house I guess!Flag
