Moving BHS should be a crime |
| 105 | Alex Craven | moving Benedictine to the abbey makes complete monetary sense, however, one cannot put a price on such priceless things like tradition. if we moved to the abbey, we would lose the very thing that makes BHS different from all of the other schools- the fact that we value tradition above everything else. plus, what do they expect us to do with Rut court? we can't tear that building down |
| 106 | Ryan Schoepke | I think i speak on behave of my 08 brothers the school can't be moved! |
| 107 | Ray Sells | Benedictine will never move |

| 109 | Tripp Winfree | |
| 110 | Thomas Bahen | I understand some of the reasons for moving the school but one fact that stands out in my mind is that in order to make this move happen the monks would need a newer more expensive living area closer to the river. This sounds a little suspicious for their motives. The move would ruin the traditions built around sheppard street and although the campus may be prettier, it would just lead to another west end school like Collegiate. I believe BHS's location, close to SGHS, is unique. BHS should stay in the city. |
| 111 | Zach Vining | Being a current cadet at Benedictine, I couldn't picture BHS anywhere but where it currently resides. It is easily accesible to all, and very convenient for any event. I also play basketball for BHS and there's no place i could ever picture any future cadet team playing but Rut Court. It is a historical landmark in Richmond and what is to become of it if BHS moves? Don't move the school. |
| 112 | Robert Medley | This is a detriment to the history of Benedictine. |
| 113 | Matthew Kittrell | dont do it |
| 114 | John Beres | save the tradition |
| 115 | John Minisi | This is an absolutely terrible idea. There is no other word I can think of to describe it.
1) BHS is a small school, with a small student body. We all liked it that way. Daily, you would be in close contact with fellow cadets. In a building like the Abbey, everyone would become spread out.
2) A relationship with St. Gertrudes would be nearly impossible...and despite how much the two student bodies may mock each other, both schools are in fact very close.
3) The Gym is not just a place filled with tradition and memories for BHS....it was once a social center of Richmond and U of R.
4) When I was at BHS, the admissions office wanted to get 400 people into the school. We couldn't ever get past 275. We couldnt even fill that small building, how on earth do you plan on filling the Abbey? The yearly upkeep costs would be exorbitant, especially in relation to the student body.
5) Do you have any idea how incredibly inconvenient it is to drive from anywhere besides goochland to the Abbey? it takes 20 minutes from southside. During morning traffic, that becomes about 35-40 minutes. getting home at night is just as bad. That would be a huge turnoff to parents looking for a place to send their kids.
6) It destroys numerous traditions and memories.
7) Part of what makes BHS unique and awesome is its current location. Its right on Boulevard, and close to Cary St. Not many people get to go to high school in a city, and its a great experience. I don't see any advantage to moving the school to the middle of nowhere.
8) If you really, absolutely, believe that you do not need alumni support, then by all means, move the school. If you don't want to lose the incredible alumni system BHS has, then do the right thing and keep it where it is. I know right now that if the school moves, I will not donate a dime when im out of college...simply because it will be completely different from the school i went to and loved.
Do not move the school.

| 119 | Bobby Donohoe | The location of Benedictine brings forth a flood of tradition. Moving would be a waste of money, generous alumni, and faithful faculty. |

| 122 | Chris Tangard | A lot of things will chage if the Abbot gets his way. It Benedictine will never be the same. |

| 132 | Gregory A. Gwaltney | I hope that the school maintains it's place on the property and in the vicinity of the sister school. The association between the two is vital for the continued functionality of the student interaction on a daily basis. The support of the sisters of the sister school have eased me on some of my hardest days as well as the understanding of the history of cadet life and the mutlitude of memories that are invoked from the establishment of the gym, the basketball court that was home to our passed coach's legacy, and the continued pride of the various atheletes that have gone on to more professional sport careers. |

| 134 | Stephen Wiillard | Very little can be said that has not already been. The soul of the school is in that building from the names on the rafters of Coach Rut Gym to the senior stairs and the door inscribed Benedictine College. The bell tower is a symbol to students, faculty, and the city of the strength of tradition that is represented in Benedictine, and Richmond itself. Sell the building, sell the meaning, and you sell the soul of the school. |
| 135 | phil riggan | I didn't attend the school, but lived near there. You can't go to Chiocca's restaraunt and not have a Benedictine alum sitting next to you. 100 years of tradition should be respected. |
