I love college basketball. The NCAA Men's College Basketball Tournament should be grounds for days off from work. I tend to feel sick around the middle of March. However, there are a few things that really aggravate me about the rules of the game, or at least the way officials call the games. Here are three rules that I think need to change. 1. Jump Ball: every jump ball should be a turnover for the offense. Ask yourself this, have you ever seen a jump ball caused by good offense? Didn't think so. I hate to see a team play great defense for 30 seconds, cause a tie-up, then have to give the ball right back to the offense. 2. Charge/Player Control Foul: they have started to call fouls on players who have left the floor before the defense is set. Then the defense slides over, not allowing the offensive player a place to land, and call an offensive foul. How can a player change direction and get out of the way in mid-air? 3. Offense initiating contact: I am sick of jump shooters sticking out a leg to get hit or jumping into a defender who has legal guarding position to draw a foul. A foul is when a player gains an "unfair advantage" over another player. I don't understand how there can be a foul when the offense is initiating the contact. There is no unfair advantage if the offensive player chooses to get hit Please join me in petitioning the NCAA to consider changing these rules to keep the integrity of this great game in tact.
