I am a NJ voter and support the "3 Foot Safe Passing" bill sponsored by Senators Brian Stack & Kevin O'Toole, Assemblywoman Grace Spencer, Assemblywoman Linda Stender and Assemblyman Ruben J. Ramos, Jr. This bill is fully supported by the NJ Bike & Walk Coalition. The Bill numbers are S-1461 and A-1020.

1. Defines a safe passing distance of at least 3', when available, for vehicles when overtaking a bicycle or passing a pedestrian or other vulnerable user, or groups of such users.
2. Imposes a fine of $100 for the first offense and $300 thereafter for violating the 3 foot minimum distance requirement when overtaking a bicycle or passing a pedestrian or other vulnerable user, or groups of such users.
3. We urge that this bill be passed and enacted into law.

This Petition will be sent to Senator Nicholas Sacco, head of the Transportation Committee, as well as the Senate and Assembly sponsors. You can find your legislator here if you are interested: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/members/legsearch.asp

The names/signatures on this petition will never be sold or shared with any third parties other than the NJ legislation. We will keep you up-to-date on how we are progressing via email.

Thank you so much for your support and PLEASE pass on to every cyclist, walker, runner, jogger and other vulnerable users so we can make a statement to our legislature and a difference in our state!

Please note: NO donation to iPetitions is necessary - just ignore this request!

The feedback from cyclists across the state confirms this is long overdue. We are pressing the committee for a hearing right now.

3 foot safe-passing law is an absolute must for the safety of all bicycle users on the road. The argument that it forces a motor vehicle to oncoming traffic is rubbish. I, myself am a driver and passing only when is it safe, is really not that difficult to do when a person uses his/ her better judgment. Cars and bikes can co-exist on the road.

Almost got hit twice this week alone in Hoboken. People just dont care about inches when they fly by you. We need this law now.

Drivers in this state are way too aggressive. I want to ride my bike to work without fearing for my life every single day.
