PETITION TO THE MEMBERS OF MICHIGAN HOUSE AND MICHIGAN SENATE

WE, THE UNDERSIGNED RESIDENTS OF MICHIGAN draw the attention of the House to the following:

• THAT the public policy of Michigan favor permanent and stable parent-child relationships for all children; allowing a child the protection and support of two legal parents promotes that policy;

• THAT it is in the best interests of children socially, economically and emotionally to legally recognize the relationships between children and those persons the child identifies as parents or those serving a parental role;

• THAT it is in interest of the State of Michigan and will relieve the burden on the public welfare system to allow two people to accept the responsibilities of a child's welfare, medical care, education, housing and basic needs, and to increase the number of prospective parents for the 17,240 children currently in the foster system;

THEREFORE your petitioners call upon Members of Michigan Government to endorses Second Parent Adoption, House Bill 4259, in the state legislature.
