Jennifer Bauters | While I am NOT a citizen of Canada or of native origin from Canada I do understand the importance that these symbols can hold to the native community there and they should NOT be twisted like this just to turn a dime. It's an outrage on all levels and should ultimately be corrected immediately! |

Claire Cassidy | Every time I see an advertisement with these "cute and cuddly" mascot images it makes me sick to my stomach with shame. This is not the kind of reaction I should be getting from something meant to promote our special west coast. |
Cat Brooks | Here's to seeing the Olympics truly standing for cultural togetherness! |

Chelsea Kopoacsi | I'm severely disappointed in the fact that the committee has in fact distorted the images of these very important cultural beings! Things like this hurt our culture and our pride as a country and i believe others can and will vouch for me on this fact! If you injure us, in the state of which the world is in now, i wouldn't be surprised if sometime soon, we'll start a world war three! we alll gotta work togeter and that includes informin individuals yo will and are going to be doing this in te future and having somone'reliable' to do the design. Thank you. |

Anonymous | This was brought to my attention by someone on deviant art. I'm sure it wasn't meant to offend people, but thats what it did, so they need to accept that and work to fix it. |
Rosie Sinner | I find it rather offensive that the designs for the characters are done in a style that is obviously NOT of the nation it represents. The current mascots appear to have been done in a style similiar to Japan's "Hello Kitty". While I understand the designer's wish to portray the mascots as "child-friendly", the designer should have considered the cultural background of the mascots. Culture plays a large part in a nation's society, and if that culture is not portrayed to its truest form, what pride can that nation have? In my personal opinion, the mascots now portrayed do not characterize the "spirit" of Canada, but rather the spirit of Japan, despite the origins of the mascots themselves. In conclusion, I would highly recommend re-designing the mascots: Might I suggest that someone from the First Nation design the mascots, since they actually KNOW what they are supposed to look like? (In my opinion, the animals depicted by the "official mascots" look like teddy bears and wookies, not the respectful and dignified creatures of lore.) |
Sidney Robertson | It's not only offensive, it's embaressing. Kind of like having a culture founded on Hello Kitty. |

Alyson Phillips | I find it careless and even down right rude and offensive toward the Natives. Having their beliefs and Spirits changed into a the laughing stock and a way to get money. |

Yuki | It's disgusting that no one respects a Religion just because they use animals in it. If someone did the same with Buddha, Jesus, and Mohammad, then what would happen...? |

Lisa Brinker | I currently live in the USA but my family is originally from Canada. I have lost all connections though diluted blood but I am offended still. I hope that you take this petition seriously. Not only are the members of First Nations upset about this cultural bashing but others from across the world are as well! |

Anonymous | The Olympics is supposed to bring people together and honour the people, not divide and piss them off. |
Rachael Redolfi | while i am not Canadian, nor a part of the First Nations, i still understand the amount of disrespect it takes to completely disregard the original heritage of a culture and bastardize it with the sole intention of benefiting fiscally from the changes. i feel that the Committee not only showed poor fore-sight, but also very irresponsible judgment when allowing the designs for the 2010 Olympic mascots to be taken so far from their original heritage. one would not choose to illustrate the Ancient Egyptian gods in the Japanese anime style, so why do it with the mythological creatures from the Pacific North West? |
