Too bad we can't have a forum and ask some hard questions, yes, even of ourselves...Flag

Name: Linda Langness on Jan 25, 2008Comments: I agree. If a candidate cannot be present, the youtube video should suffice. But if the candidate is present, I'd like to hear what that candidate has to say live. I don't come all the way from Boundary County for a video....Flag

Name: Yvonne McCoy on Jan 25, 2008Comments: I was told by someone at the top of the Idaho Democratic Party that videos enable the candidates to do some fun, silly things and this is an easy and cheap way to make their presentations. My purpose in attending the Frank Church Banquet is not to watch silly videos but to hear the candidates express serious ideas about what they expect to achieve if they were to win the election and to enable me to measure the serious merit of the candidate. This banquet is one of the few large arenas where Idaho Democrats can do that. And if the facility of method and cost are determining factors, what could be easier and cheaper than letting the candidates speak in person And make no mistake about it, if the candidates were to develop really good and effective videos, it would not be cheap. Personally, I would rather the candidates spend their hard earned campaign funds in other, more productive ways. Let the candidates speak! If the banquet organizers want to save time, let them strictly limit the amount of time for live speeches and cut out some of the other program fluff.Flag

Name: JO KIRKPATRICK, PHD on Jan 25, 2008Comments: As time goes by, the IDP is getting more authoritarian and controlled in favor of bureaucrats instead of in favor of Dems at large . This is a stupid and limiting move. Part of the reason for attending the Frank Church Banquet is to hear our candidates in person, not as virtual reality. The length of their speeches can always be moderated, for Pete's sake! We ask the IDP to restore their speeches to this event.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 25, 2008Comments: The idea of going to the largest political event in the state annually and *not* seeing the candidates speaking *live* just makes no sense. This idea, while a good way to push the candidates into producing video, benefits the candidate with the most money. And what it *doesn't* do is make sure the candidate is ready and capable of presenting a good stump speech. But then maybe that's the point of this - to give the candidate with the most money and the least presence a chance to look the best, even when he isn't. I guess I shouldn't be surprised in the political game that politics is going on - but I expected the State Party to be a little more neutral in a contested primary.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 25, 2008Comments: I understand the reasoning behind asking for videos from the candidates, but I still want to hear them speak in person at the Frank Church Banquet. There are only four candidates. I'll give them my time, if the Idaho Democratic Party Leadership gives me the courtesy of respecting what I and many people attending the banquet want. We Idahoans deserve to have a say, and we say live is better! Please reconsider the decision to can the candidates.Flag

Name: Deb Spindler on Jan 25, 2008Comments: i want to see the candidate speak in person. I don't want tp pay to go see political adds. I love listening to Larry LaRocco speak, he's one of my favorites. . I wonder, who's paying for the production of the films I hope not the candidates themselves. What a burden to place on our candidates especially those in primary races. I hate to see them spending scarce campaign funds where standing up and speaking is free. I agree, it's disrespectful to all involved.Flag

Name: Ida Demo on Jan 25, 2008Comments: I am sorry that our campaigns have come down to money instead of the quality of the candidate. I would like to see our candidates in a live performance because I would like to see how they respond to the pressure tank of speaking to an audience. Anyone with enough money and editor can represent themselves well but what can they do without the bells and whistles that is what I want to know.Flag

Name: Elizabeth Wasson on Jan 25, 2008Comments: Oh hell no. I am so tired of the youtube intrusion into person to person politics. The internet is a fabulous tool and can be used when personal contact is not possible. Let's hear what the candidates have to say without editing! One of the great things about Idaho is the accessibility of elected officials and candidates (better than most places anyway) I don't know how many folks that have come to visit me in Boise have been so impressed by the personal level of involvement on behalf of most of our Democratic elected officials and how relatively easy is is to be involved as an individual. Kos will be great, I'm guessing. But I don't want to trade national speakers for live action with our local candidates. You're going to youtube the life right out of the event with those stilted videos. Do it live! BTW, Julie ROCKS!Flag

Name: Kristy Johnson on Jan 26, 2008Comments: To state that a 5 minute video can be used as political ad for main stream media is amazing unless the candidate has unlimited wealth. While I rally like the utube distribution of information, ir is great for national exposure, but these are candidates (in a primary) who need to be taking to Idahoans. 1/2 of the people in Idaho who have computers stil have slow dial up access. I objected to this from day one, so I guess we will see the best candidates video can sell!!Flag

Name: George Moses on Jan 26, 2008Comments: The notion that our candidates are somehow too boring to listen to live is an appalling one, epecially coming from "leaderdhip". If shortening the banquet is what's wanted there are plenty of ways to do that without insulting the candidates and attendees with the concept that their candidates are somehow not ready for prime time. We can get YouTube anywhere, anytime. Candidates in front of a large crowd of partisan supporters is a rare opportunity, one not to be missed.Flag

The Frank Church Banquest is the biggest event in the State, and our candidates can't speak This decision reflects the problem with the Idaho Democratic Party -- they are too interested in intra-party intrigue, and not committed to electing Democrats!Flag

I want to see for myself how the candidates handle themselves in front of a crowd. Can they motivate a crowd Can they think and act on their feet in the heat of battle Can they persuade Would you pay $75 to go to a concert and end up watching a video of a band you were expecting to see liveFlag

Further, it is important for candidates to connect with supporters and Democrats and a live short talk is an excellent way to do it.. Internet style contact is tremendously important, but in Idaho personal contact will always be a winner for any candidate.Flag
