This petition will allow the city to vote on the 19 ordinance. The ordinance will allow people aged 19+ in Iowa City bars during all regular business hours. This ordinance will provide a safer place for people above 19 to gather together and have a good time. More and more people are taking to the surrounding neighborhoods to party after 10pm when they are escorted out of the bars downtown, these parties are not patrolled by police, and are not managed by bouncers to keep everyone safe. Allowing more people the opportunity to stay in the bars until closing time keeps everyone safer throughout the city.
