Perhaps there should be a class taught on tolerance, understanding, kindness towards others. and compassion. It seems these things are sorely lacking in our society.Flag

Name: Jason Friend on Jun 13, 2009Comments: You know what ticks me off. A liberal teacher can be far left leaning and completely show their bias and teach their bias to their students and even grade papers toward that bias, and nothing happens to them. But you get a conservative teacher who actually shows both sides of a debate and he gets canned. Talk about double standard. Politics should play no decision on someones job. Their is no way we are going agree on every issue. Variety is the spice of life. How boring would life be if we all agreed on every issue.Flag

Name: K. Daniels on Jun 13, 2009Comments: This is outrageous! When all during the entire campaign, it was LIBERAL teachers, talking in class to their students dissing Sen McCain. Remember all the stories, of teachers telling their students who had parents in the Military, that their parent would be there in Iraq for years, and that they were not going to see them..There were teachers who talked horribly about President Bush, John McCain, and yet Preached the "gospel" regarding Obama. Why is there a double Standard This IS WRONG when Liberals can get away with anything and nobody cries Foul, because they are afraid of the retaliation! yet when someone has their own beliefs, which happen to be conservative, they are CRUCIFIED in the media and in public. Stop this nonsense, a good teacher is difficult to come by. DO not allow this to happen! Personal beliefs should not interfere with a persons job. Remember this is AMERICA, and we are entitled to our freedom of BELIEFS! (that is until Obama takes that away from us, like he is everything else) Political beliefs, have nothing to do with how someone can perform their job. Leave Mr Latham and his family alone and let him TEACH!Flag

Name: Cheryl Finney on Jun 13, 2009Comments: I live in Austin Texas but was appalled when I read this story about your teacher being fired. Conservative or not....should not matter.. It sounds like he is an excellent, well-liked teacher. The principal and school board should be ashamed as it appears that they do not have the students best interests at heart. Good teachers like him are so hard to find! Please keep fighting for him! And yes, I also am a conservative, but it sounds like he was fair in all of his lessons, no matter who he may have been talking about.Flag

Such a double standard, If she was charged with DUI in 2006, they are letting the wrong person go. This man is a hero. Wise up, Lawrence, Kansas. He is a breath of fresh air for you all. Let the sudents learn to think for themselves, rather that become like the rest of the robots churned out from the public school systems.Flag
