Prevent undesirable commercial development in Vredehoek

A company based in Tzaneen has bought 1 St James (just across the road from Spar, up the Hill, previously owned by solicitors). The new owner wants to rezone it as a business zone B1 (that allows for many different types of businesses - they haven't said what but
this could cover an exhaust centre , fuel station , light industrial or mall. Any formal business would affect traffic, parking and the atmosphere of the neighbourhood and particularly quiet and residential St James Street

Home owners in the area know that the attraction to the area is it's peace, quiet and "arty / yuppie" vibe. We feel additional business types beyond the current zoning (i.e. offices are what's currently allowed) will negatively affect both the vibe in the area and thus the property and rental values in the area. While the original proposal was rejected, the company has appealed the motion and we have only until Thursday 2 May to mount an opposition – we need all interested and concerned parties to sign this petition to oppose this development.

1 year ago Comments: Firstly I think that the Cape Town City Council should realise that THEY are the Civil Servants that work for US - the Ratepayers. WHY were Residents in Vredehoek and Devil's Peak not notified of the original Rezoning Application for Business/Commercial....? We are only now finding out about the appeal for the first refusal of the Rezoning - and to now bully the residents with a deadline for objections is not acceptable. We the Ratepayers and Resident should receive first priority from Council....... and we object vehemently against further Business or Commercial development in our Residential area - and we certain object to the Rezoning of this property at No: 1 St'James Street, Vredehoek
