A company based in Tzaneen has bought 1 St James (just across the road from Spar, up the Hill, previously owned by solicitors). The new owner wants to rezone it as a business zone B1 (that allows for many different types of businesses - they haven't said what but
this could cover an exhaust centre , fuel station , light industrial or mall. Any formal business would affect traffic, parking and the atmosphere of the neighbourhood and particularly quiet and residential St James Street

Home owners in the area know that the attraction to the area is it's peace, quiet and "arty / yuppie" vibe. We feel additional business types beyond the current zoning (i.e. offices are what's currently allowed) will negatively affect both the vibe in the area and thus the property and rental values in the area. While the original proposal was rejected, the company has appealed the motion and we have only until Thursday 2 May to mount an opposition – we need all interested and concerned parties to sign this petition to oppose this development.
