T-Mobile, as the major provider of service for users of the Danger Sidekick (AKA “Hiptop”) needs to understand how critical the functionality of synchronization is to Sidekick users and with all due haste offer this functionality either for free or even as a paid service.
Even before Danger's Sidekick was first released for sale, it was promised in a Danger press release that synch capability (the ability to synchronize ones data between the Sidekick and a software-based personal information manager (PIM) such as Microsoft Outlook, the Palm Desktop, etc.) would be coming "soon." Danger’s own current FAQ still states: “A. Initially, the hiptop device will provide for importing of contacts from most PIM applications. Danger has announced developer relationships with several synchronization partners and expect for their solutions to be available to consumers in 2003.”
Despite the clamoring of its users, and endless promises, today, T-mobile users still do not have this capability which is known to exist and which is offered on other T-Mobile devices like the RIM Blackberry. In fact, another mobile provider which is offering the Sidekick, Cable and Wireless, offers synch functionality free of charge. T-Mobile can and should offer this capability to its users, as others have done, and as this was promised continuously for almost 2 years now.
This petition is an effort to show T-Mobile the interest in such a synchronization capability.
By signing this petition you are:
a) strongly urging T-mobile to offer full synchronization (upload and download capabilities as soon as possible for the most popular PIMs, e.g. Microsoft Outlook
b) certifying that if reasonably priced, you intend to buy such a product or service
c) certifying your intention that if synchronization is not included by the date of the next Over-The-Air Update (OTAU), or when the next Sidekick model is released, whichever comes later, you will seriously consider leaving T-Mobile. Or, if you currently have yet to purchase the Sidekick but are considering buying it that you will not purchase it until synchronization capability is officially announced with a firm date.
