| 18557 | Paul | Nott | GB | This theme music was an
essential lifter of spirits
first thing in the morning.
I feel very strongly that it should be reinstated
immediately. |
| 18558 | David | Small | GB | Make it the National Anthem. It is truly great.
No I didn't get up early every morning and stand by my bed listening to it. It was the fact that sombody took the trouble when I did not, not to stand buy there beds but to carfully weave these theams, and sombody took the trouble to broadcast it at the leading edge of every day.
It was what was implicit in that
Once in a while I would be up early firing a kiln, or off on a sales trip.Or woken by the thrill of being alive, making a cup of tea in the warmth of the kitchen and this music would come on the radio and I have to confess and I know its a shamfull thing but I would feel so proud, So proud of this little island set as a jewl admits an emerald sea.Of sweet old ladys and gardening, innovation and a leagal system that has been exported all around the world and so many things large and small.
Nobody can quite define it and we dare not speak of it often, for fear of the pink jackboot of politicle correctness but there is something high in the character of this land. This little bit of music was a tiny gesture to the shadow of that greatness
No more to be reminded of the high pastures of peace and freedom that our forbears secured. No more early morning music fueled goose bump moments of national pride.
Just in case you think im an ardent nationalist or some thing my son is a half cast and Im proud of him as well.
HAY WHY NOT BRING IT BACK WITH A SITAR BIT IN IT. |
| 18559 | Tom | Matthews | GB | I think it is absolutely disgraceful that Radio 4 should remove this theme. By all means if people were complaining about it, remove it, but do not just remove it for change's sake.
The UK is becoming a multi faith, multi national country, which is great! However, I believe that everyone in the country should still be counted as British, wherever they are from. The Radio 4 theme is one of the things that I always think of when I think of the UK, and it makes me feel very patriotic to hear it. Perhaps one of the problems with the country today is that people are losing that feeling of patriotism? The removal of one of the GREATEST traditions of Radio 4 will certainly not help this. Please BBC, bring back the theme! Does it really make much difference to people if their first news bulletin of the day is 5 minutes shorter? Please BBC!
P.S. If anyone thinks that it is only the older generations campaigning to keep the theme, I'm 18! |

| 18561 | john | pearson | GB | The usual pc brigade appear to have won again. They still have not given a genuine reason for depriving the British people of something that they are proud of. Who on earth does this delightful, patriotic piece of music offend? If indeed it does offend anybody then I would suggest they listen to another station and let the MAJORITY of listeners hear what they wish to hear............The UK is still a democracy .......... isn't it?? |

| 18578 | Thomas | Bright | GB | It's an absolute disgrace that for the sake of "five minutes extra news" the BBC got rid of a national treasure. They may have gained five MINUTES but in doing so they probably lost five MILLION viewers. Long live the Rdio 4 UK Theme. We'll get it back some day... |

| 18585 | William | Coulthard | NZ | I first met the Radio 4 theme when suffering insomnia as a 25 year old & after I was able to get to sleep I would routinely wake up earlier than necessary to start my day with some stirring music. |
