| 60 | Brian | Haines | FL | US | Although I empathize with your concerns, I have to disagree with your request. As a Verio Reseller I would not like to see this become official Verio policy. I do not host any pornographic Web sites, but I don't believe that they should be restricted in this way.
I have been in the business since about 1996, and pornography has always been a part of it. I don't believe the medium would be as robust as it is if it were not for the major cash pouring in from pornographic profits. The demand for pornography is strong, and I suspect that many who have agreed with this petition have been on the demand side of the transaction.
I do agree that people should be able to choose weather to view this content. More importantly they should be able to filter this content from children. Instead of trying to limit the freedoms of others who choose, and have the right to choose, to view pornography, we could be working to require that it comply with certain screening capability. Maybe it is restricted to certain IP addresses, or a special domain name type (.porn, .xxx, etc). We should not require that information that is legal for consumption should not be allowed to be hosted by a legal provider of those services.
The US has this thing called The Constitution and we are pretty picky about it's First Amendment.
I hesitate to mention this, but the sites you link to on your petition page are pathetic! Parents TV Council, for instance, sites that "75% of the 1,505 adults polled...." I am no rocket scientist, but I have enough college to know that there is nothing scientific about a poll of only 1500 TV viewers, no matter what the poll was about, or what they were watching! |
