| 3 | Kevin | Farrell | UK | If a painter presents his work, would the art gallery remove sections of the canvas for space reasons; if a concert were being held would the organisers cut the 1812 overture to just the cannon-fire for reasons of timing?
Why do film companies persist in playing their version of God by massacring films by directors who have the right to have their films screened AS THEY SHOT THEM?
Film companies don't care about the art in the product they care only about the profit potential in the business end.
Why cannot 20th century Fox be bold and step out of their comfort zone of monetary consideration for once and restore The Sand Pebbles to its full length?
Robert Wise is too celebrated and honoured a director for this not to happen.
Not to restore the cuts is to dishnour this great and important film. |
| 4 | Andrew | Barwell | CA | Truly a wise (and profitable) project for a new addition to the repertoire of classic films on DVD |
| 5 | Robert | Lessig | US | |
| 6 | Steve | Farlow | US | I would BUY the fully restored version of The Sand Pebbles.
Plus, how else are the missing scenes going to be preserved? What do they exist for if not to watch? |
| 7 | Stuart | Fernie | UK | This film moved me enough to write about it, and the webpage has attracted nearly 3000 visitors in a little over two years. Not just moving, it is an important film, and an even fuller version would be much appreciated! |
| 8 | Paul | Rossen | US | This great underappreciated
epic should be seen intact
in the same manner it was
released in Dec 1966! |
| 9 | jane | Putman | US | |
| 10 | Scott | Chafin | US | Seeing "The Sand Pebbles" while I was in high school had much to do with studying the history of American foreign policy in college. I'm very much in favor of respecting the integrity of the original film. Thank you. |
| 11 | Maggie | Vanderschoot | CA | The Sand Pebbles is my favourite movie of all time - one of the great epics. Any effort to keep this movie preserved intact for future generations gets my full support. |
| 12 | kody | fahrenthold | US | |
| 13 | G | Tao | TW | This is an important film that should be preserved in its entirety. |
| 14 | Paul | Sayles | US | I think the points raised are all valid. The scenes so add to the understanding of the film. Remember now we are looking at a film on a subject that took place over 70 years ago. Many of the old China Hands are dead. This film is one of the few in existence that tells their story. It should be as accurate and faithful as possible. |
| 15 | Alexander D. | Bevil | US | By all means restore this picture. Unlike most movies today, it is intense, sad, and thought-provoking. |
| 16 | Edward | Watts | US | A film with deleted scenes restored is much more an inducement to purchase a DVD after tape and broadcast availability. |
| 17 | Steven | Bryson | US | One of the best movies of all time deserves to be restored to its full glory. |
| 18 | David | McDonald | UK | |
| 19 | Joe | Gorin | | |
| 20 | Phil | Teslow | US | |
| 21 | Thomas | Stoner | US | This great work deserves restoration to its original release version and distribution on DVD media. |
| 22 | Mark | Gallo | US | I loved the film and strongly identified with the lead actor, Jake Holman. The dinner scene with Candice Bergen was particularly meaningful to the story. |
| 23 | Cary | Lee | US | |
| 24 | Rory | Monteith | US | The Sand Pebbles deserves to be seen in its complete version again. |
| 25 | Michael | Tang | US | |
| 26 | John | Clayton | | |
| 27 | Stephen | Harrison | US | I saw the film first in 1966 and remember 5 of the 6 missing segments you list. Having seen the movie since then on tape, I realized something had been left out but was'nt sure of what until I saw that list. The film suffers as a result of the excises, regardless of the reason for them. |
| 28 | Karen | Harrison | US | |
| 29 | Dave | Curle | CA | 'state' why not provide 'province'? |
| 30 | Paul | Murphy | IE | |

| 37 | Oliver | Diaz | | |

| 43 | Cayla | Spencer | CA | |
| 44 | Michael | Alonzo | US | Since I was a little kid the movie "The Sand Pebbles" starring Steve McQueen has always been one of my favorites. Someone at 20th Century Fox should just stand up and make the decision to restore this movie to its original 196 minutes. The 40th anniversery of this great movie will be in 2006. |
| 45 | daniel | stamper | US | |
| 46 | Jon | Petty | DZ | |
| 47 | Brian | White | | |
| 48 | James | Kirwan | US | I had no idea of what had been cut, but after reading the list of cut scenes, the story made better sense! Why do these Hollywood idiots keep pissing in the soup...and then thinking it tastes better?!! |
